Dear Resident:
It is hard to believe that we have been under the threat of the COVID-19 virus for an entire year. So much has changed in this time and so many people have suffered as a result, both health and economic related.
Thank you to all of you who have done your part to help keep yourselves, your family, friends and neighbours safe. As we start to see our positive numbers come down the past week, we need to remain vigilant and continue to do our part..unfortunately this is not over.
We have responded with as much help and support we can at both the City and Region, changing policies to support both businesses and residents. We continue to advocate to the province and federal governments on your behalf. As you have heard there will be a delay to our planned rollout of the vaccine here in Peel. We had hoped to open the public clinics mid February for those in the older age groups but given the lack of vaccines coming into the country that will be delayed. I will post when we have some new information to share.
As we continue living in this virtual world please reach out to those who may not have access to family and friends even if just to say hello. Thank you again for all you are doing and take care.
As always you can contact me for assistance on any city or region issue at [email protected], by phone to 905-896-5900 at any time and my staff and I will be pleased to help you. Our offices will be closed until January 4 but I will be checking email over the coming week.

Sick Pay Benefits: Call for Resident Participation in Public Campaign
Regional Councill has launched a public campaign asking residents to add their voice to the call for the provincial and federal governments to provide paid sick leave. This pandemic has highlighted the fact that lack of access to paid sick days is a health hazard, particularly for low-income workers, contract and agency workers, those who cannot work remotely, and health-care workers, many of whom are considered essential but do not have access to paid sick days.
Without access to paid sick leave, many essential workers are faced with an impossible decision whether to stay home and face financial hardship or to continue to work and potentially infect others in their workplace.
Residents in Peel are encouraged to visit peelregion.ca/paid-sick-leave where they can email their local MP and/or MPP and join the call for paid sick leave in Peel.

Hazel McCallion: 100th Birthday Celebrations
February 14, 2021 marks former Mayor Hazel McCallion's 100th birthday. I am so proud to have worked with Hazel for almost 30 years until she retired in 2014. Hazel has been honoured many times but I was proud when Council supported my suggestion to rename Mississauga's Central Library to the Hazel McCallion Central Library. This is the most fitting tribute to this great lady.
There will be many celebrations of Hazel's 100th birthday and I am working on a local ongoing tribute with a group of dedicated citizens..watch for more on that.

Winter Maintenance
As a city we are prepared to tackle snow events as they occur over the next few months. I ask that you all be a good neighbour and shovel your driveways and limit parking on the streets. Our winter crews, along with 370 pieces of equipment are ready to respond to winter storms around the clock, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What We Clear:
The City clears and salts using a priority route system. Major roads, such as Winston Churchill and Tenth Line including on-street bike lanes, priority sidewalks, bus stops, pedestrian crossings and designated roadside multi-use trails are cleared first. Winter maintenance on residential/secondary roads starts once major roads are cleared. The City is focused on using the right amount of road salt, in the right place and at the right time, while maintaining road safety and minimizing impacts on the environment.
During severe winter events, the City may declare a Significant Weather Event - under the Ontario Municipal Act (Regulation 239/02) to allow winter crews time to deploy winter equipment to respond to a significant winter storm.
Snow Season Parking:
Roads with parked cars take longer to plow or salt. You can help by removing your vehicle, garbage and recycling bin from the road during heavy snowfalls. On-street parking restrictions are in effect year round from 2 a.m. until 6 a.m. During winter operations, temporary parking permits can be suspended at any time and new permits will not be issued. Vehicles left on City streets in contravention of the Traffic By-law will be issued a parking ticket and towed at the owner’s expense.
Stay Informed:
- Visit mississauga.ca/snow to learn more about snow clearing in the city.
- Call 3-1-1 (905-615-4311 if outside city limits) to find out if on-street parking restrictions are in effect or to report a missed street after the level of service timelines have expired.

Report Litter or Dumping
These past months have seen more people out in the parks. Sadly, many of them leave their litter and bins are reported overflowing with garbage left on the ground. Our crews try to keep up with emptying but you can help by reporting. If garbage and debris is left in a park, call 3-1-1. By calling 3-1-1, you will also be able to track the status of your complaint.
Dumping in our parks and streets is not only irresponsible, it is also illegal and subject to fines. For information on the bylaw governing this please visit the City website at:

Helping Businesses Navigate Through the COVID-19 Pandemic
The City of Mississauga is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes survive the impacts of the pandemic through a variety of free support services, programs and resources through the Economic Development Office (EDO).
Since the pandemic started, EDO created a COVID-19 business support web page that has become a central resource for local businesses to stay informed on latest news and updates. The site also includes a Business Relief Portal, a self-selection tool that is updated daily that helps identify relief programs and incentives that best apply to specific business needs and links to the government source of support.
As the City enters lockdown, businesses can take advantage of Small Business Programs and Resources, including digital adoption programs and training webinars that help businesses build websites, create an e-commerce store, and use social media and other digital platforms to promote their services and products.
EDO also offers Business Advisory Services, a dedicated team that provides one-on-one expert support and guidance to entrepreneurs and business owners, including free access to professional legal, accounting, business operations, sales and marketing specialists.
Temporary Outdoor Restaurant Patios Extended to December 2021
