Wareham's Commitment

Our commitment to art and the humanities is readily evident throughout our research campuses in Emeryville, Berkeley, and Richmond. We believe art is essential to the creative nature of Wareham, to the creative nature of the scientists who work there, and to the creative nature of the communities where these campuses have grown over 47 years. It is vital to all our futures that all children are given access to art and artists.

The Wareham team loves art! We regularly add to our collection at all of our research campuses and invite you to walk them and discover the pieces we love for yourselves.

A portion of our vast art collection is part of the City of Emeryville's Art in Public Art Program (AIPP) such as DNA (left). The link below will take you to the art maps and walking guides for the AIPP.

OCTOBER 7–29

37th Emeryville Celebration of the Arts

Wareham has been a strong supporter of the annual celebration since its inception, hosting the event many times. The 37th annual Emeryville Celebration of the Arts features over 180 works of the 126 Emeryville artists included in the juried exhibit. Meet the artists behind the work. Join the events throughout, a poetry workshop, poetry readings/improv jazz evening, a dance preview. Congratulations to Pat Klein, who has two pieces in the show.

OCTOBER 5–16

Mill Valley Film Festival

Wareham has funded this film festival for four decades as well as other programs of the California Film Institute, including its DocLands Festival and the Environmental Youth Forum, which we enabled East Bay students to attend annually for many years.

The internationally-acclaimed Mill Valley Film Festival has screenings in Berkeley at BAMPFA. Look for those and all the incredible films screening now at the link below. Berkeley FILM Foundation

The BFF is a public-private partnership founded by Wareham, the City of Berkeley, and the Saul Zaentz Company in 2009. We have distributed $2.08 million to local filmmakers since. See the link below for more info on BFF and the 2023 grants just awarded.

In the meantime, the following BFF-funded films are screening this year at the Mill Valley Film Festival. They are incredible documentaries by East Bay filmmakers, many of whom are also Wareham tenants.

Water for Life - Directed by Will Parrinello, produced by Rick Tejada-Flores, funded in 2018 and 2022.

Skin of Glass - Directed by Denise Zmekhol, funded in 2018 and 2022. Just received Best Film Award at Barcelona film festival and will be screening as one of the four best films in Rotterdam.

The 9 Lives of Barbara Dane - Directed by Maureen Gosling, funded in 2018 and 2023.

The Lake Merritt Monster - Directed by Benjamin Mullholand, funded in 2020.

KALA Art Institute

Wareham's long relationship with Kala Art Institute has brought annual art programming into the local schools for decades.

The heart of Kala’s mission as a vital, California art-making hub is supporting artists and engaging the community. Kala offers professional facilities to those working in and across printmaking and digital media, installation, sound, and performance.
