Breaking Library news:
On Friday March 14, 2025 a Presidential Executive Order was issued directing that the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) “shall be eliminated to the maximum extent consistent with applicable law, and such entities shall reduce the performance of their statutory functions and associated personnel to the minimum presence and function required by law”.
This Order has the potential to greatly impact the budgets and/or services provided to NH residents by their libraries. As of Thursday, March 20, most, if not all, IMLS staff were put on administrative leave, and Deputy Secretary of Labor Keith E. Sonderling was sworn in as Acting Director of the IMLS and issued a statement of intent.
The NH State Library receives Federal funds via IMLS that are used to run the NH Interlibrary Loan (ILL) system, including software and statewide delivery service. ILL is important for our small state, because it allows every library in the state to borrow and lend items to each other, saving on library budgets and providing prompt access to books far beyond the capacity of a local library collection. The Libby app and services that support the statewide system of downloadable books and magazines is also supported via those IMLS funds, as is staffing for Talking Books for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
The Pillsbury Free Library Trustees have issued a letter expressing concern, and you will likely see other letters from many libraries published widely in NH media soon.

Library Trustee meetings include the Monthly Board Meeting on the third Tuesday of each month (at 6:30 pm, in person). Various Committee meetings, some that meet monthly, vary in schedule but are posted online and at the USPO and Town Hall.

Book Discussion Groups
The Library book discussion group meets the 2nd Wed. each month at 1:30 pm in the library. All are welcome! The library has copies to borrow up to 4 weeks before the meetings.

BookEnds BookGroup meets at 4pm on the first Friday every other month. The next meeting will be on April 4: Still Life by Louise Penny.
You can also request copies for any book group via the library through inter-library loan.
