Seasonal Fun
Keep watching for ticks, if going anywhere that the ground is bare of snow, especially around leaves or piles of wood and brush or anywhere that small mammals hang out. In NH, Black legged (deer) ticks carry several serious diseases. Tiny baby ticks ("nymphs") also carry disease. The library will be picking up a box of materials from TickfreeNH.org including tick-free-nh-slap-bracelet/

Remember that fire danger can be high at this time of year when snow is gone and there are no green leaves. Burning permits are required when there is no snow cover.

CDC data
Merrimack County is now currently rated as LOW risk by the CDC County Check Tool (based on hospitalizations and deaths, not total cases).
"People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask."

On the CDC covid-19 data tracker site https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#county-view it shows Merrimack county as: "Community Transmission - Moderate," a reduction from Substantial last week.

FREE at- home rapid tests available from https://www.covidtests.gov/ are still available. A second order is now allowed. Tests are also available to buy at NH Liquor stores, and Insurance companies should cover a set number of test kits per month - check with your insurance to find if they are supplying tests or reimbursing for your purchases. Medicare also covers kits.

Also available: free N95 masks at some major pharmacies, 3 per visit. Federal mask mandates for public transportation (bus, train, air) has been extended to mid April.

Vaccination data:
Warner: 64.9% fully vaccinated, 72.4% at least one dose.
Merrimack County (per CDC) over age 5: 69.3% fully vaccinated, 86.8% at least 1 dose. (these numbers went DOWN since last week?!)

Librarians love questions. They excite us, like a Sudoku maze or an ear-scratching crossword. Librarians relish their all-time favorite reference questions: How big is Big Ben? How fast is a three-toed sloth? Which is more salt in a recipe: a pinch or a dash?

Librarians can point you to many things: Need to fix that old VCR? We can help. Something off with the starter in your 1993 Ford Probe? We've got Chilton Car (Import, too) and Truck manuals from the 1990s.
Got just the cookbook for you!

Librarians can also show you speedy and convenient shortcuts in searching the library catalog. Got a question with a legal twist - legal forms, wills, social security, estate planning? Think Nolo. This legal series covers many bases in simple, straightforward language.

For basic information on many subjects - Facebook; money management; dieting; beekeeping; Japanese phrases - search the For Dummies series. The series title is a little off-putting, but the resources are great. Even more For Dummies titles are offered online through Overdrive.

Got a question? Ask the librarian. You'll make our day!

Teen Talk by Ella
Claire, Eleanor, and Brezzen have little in common. Claire fled to Minnesota with her older brother, Eleanor is the face of a social movement, and Brezzen retreated into the fantasy world of Wizards & Warriors. But a year ago, they were linked. They all hid under the same staircase and heard the shots that took the lives of some of their classmates and a teacher.

Thoughts and Prayers is nominated for the 2022 Flume Award! To be nominated for this award, it must be voted on by New Hampshire 9th-12th graders.
Real life isn't a fairytale.
But Tiến still enjoys reading his favorite stories with his parents from the books he borrows from the local library. It's hard enough trying to communicate with your parents as a kid, but for Tiến, he doesn't even have the right words because his parents are struggling with their English. Is there a Vietnamese word for what he's going through?

The Magic Fish is nominated for the 2022 Isinglass Awards! To be nominated for this award, it must be voted on by 7th-8th graders in New Hampshire and must be a standalone fiction or nonfiction book.
Make sure to check out the other Flume Award Nominees and Isinglass Award Nominees or some great reads and to cast your vote in April for your favorite nominee! Voting for both awards happens in April, so make sure to check in for the voting link in March!
