Economic Development Advisory Committee information meeting: Friday, August 16, 2024 at 6:00 PM, Warner Town Hall, Lower Meeting Room:
An overview of the EDAC’s history and purpose, followed by a discussion of EDAC’s current and future projects.
The EDAC is promoting a review of the Warner Community Center, following a successful public survey of that building’s use and opinions about its future service to Warner. The EDAC hopes to present a warrant article concerning the future of the Warner Community Center at the March 2025 town meeting. Supporting that initiative the EDAC intends to offer tours and listening sessions beginning this September.
Additionally, the EDAC is actively pursuing new members interested in the mission: “To support the existing business community and to encourage economic growth that serves local needs, is environmentally responsible, fits aesthetically with the town’s historic architecture, and provides a net increase in municipal revenue”. (Warner Master Plan)

Teen Book Review by Casey Milender
At the core Attack of the Black Rectangles is about censorship. A 6th grade teacher assigns a book about the Holocaust, and group of students wonder why certain words and phrases are blacked out. These students juggle a world full of family, friends, enemies, crushes, feminism, protests, a dad from outer space, a stolen car, and crazy town rules!
Are you a teen interested in reading and reviewing Isinglass or Flume nominated books for this column? If so, please stop by the library on Monday or Tuesday and ask Casey about this opportunity!

Please don't burn your trash! Burning a week’s worth of trash from a single home in an open barrel can put as much of some toxic chemicals, such as dioxin and furans, in the air as a well-controlled municipal incinerator burning the trash from thousands of homes! Source: USEPA Report on Barrel Burning, January 2000.
"Fake" Eco-friendly terms?
"Compostable" plastics and picnic items? Read the fine print: only compostable in a commercial facility, (nearest one is in Maine) so choose paper or reusables instead!
Plant based plastic? Well, so is petroleum, oil and gas, and just like petro-based plastics, the chemical changes make it non-biodegradable. So yes, "forever" plastic just the same. (PLA is one variety). Choose re-usables, paper, glass or metal!
Reduce your taxes: Recycle! Warner Fees for solid waste disposal in 2023 (not including demolition waste and special disposal items) were $76,091 ($85/ton)!
Paper, corrugated cardboard and metals create income, so please don't put these in the compactor, which costs Warner $$ per ton and fills the landfill with unnecessary waste ash. Recycling plastics and glass also reduces tipping fees and ash.
Stretchy plastics may be dropped off in the TREX box on the porch of the Parish House next to the United Church of Warner for the Simonds School TREX bench project.
Acceptable items stretch when you pull. If it tears like paper, or is shiny or makes a crinkly/crunchy sound, do NOT recycle in the bins. https://nextrex.com/view/educate
