Please help us find the next recipient for Warner’s Boston Post Cane

In 1909, the Boston Post newspaper presented gold-headed walking sticks to many New England towns with the provision that the cane should be given to the oldest citizen. The Post passed out of existence years ago, but the tradition of the cane survives in New Hampshire and Warner, where it is still passed to the oldest resident. According to Barbara Staples, “The Granite State’s Boston Post Canes: a New England Tradition,” only towns with populations over 500 received the cane. The Warner Selectmen in conjunction with the Warner Historical Society has chosen to award the cane and a certificate to the oldest citizen and the cane is then kept at the Warner Historical Society.

Winter Parking Ban: The Town of Warner's Parking Ordinance is in effect and states that no vehicle may be left on any street, road, or highway in the Town of Warner between the hours of 12:00 a.m. midnight and 6:00 a.m., from November 1st until May 1st. Any vehicle in violation of this ban will be towed away at the owner’s expense.

Tax bills were mailed Monday, Nov. 4, 2024. Payments are due by Thursday, December 5, 2024. Anyone who has not received their tax bill should contact the Tax Collector who can either email or mail a copy. The tax rate at Tax Collector page.

Did you know gift wrap paper is not recyclable? Try using fabric bags instead, or come to the library on Sat. Nov. 23 at 10:30am to learn to wrap with fabric squares, Japanese style! It's easy!

Recycling and Transfer Station news: Reduce Warner's tipping fees by sorting Metal, Aluminum and corrugated cardboard which earn $$ AND reduce tipping costs. Mixed paper can also be recycled.

Warner recycles plastics #1 and #2 (clear and green bottles, milk / laundry bottles,)

Salad and berry "clamshell" style boxes are not recyclable, in spite of any number that is the same as recyclables.

There is no longer a market for recycling #5 plastic (like those Dunkin' or McDonalds beverage cups), so please use refillable containers if possible.

Batteries Plus recycles batteries and light bulbs of all kinds, in addition to used small electronics. Staples will also accept electronics, and ink cartridges.

ON HOLD: Please do not bring Stretchy plastics in the TREX box at the Parish House next to the United Church of Warner at this time. Clean shopping bags may be dropped in the box inside Market Basket.

His father is dead and it is all his fault!! 17 year old Hem is brilliant, a true genius by any standards, except at school. Having been caught by his dad skipping school, Hem drove his dad's truck home while under the influence, missed a turn and crashed! Hem was desperate to bring his father back to life; keep him cold! "Warm and dead is dead, cold and dead means hope still exists."( pg 10). Can Hem do what no one else has been able to do? What are the consequences? How many laws will he have to break in order to get his dad back!
