by Roger Robbins
Peace Corps first rule: 80 lb. baggage limit per volunteer. After the shirts and socks, after the pants and extra sneakers, after all the Do I or Don't I items, not much room left for the Great Sustainers: Books.
No room for fluff: No beach reads or book-lite titles. Just space for a few, choice volumes, substantive books that could (and should) be read time and again:
My Titles:
Best novel I ever read. It wasn't just a book, it was an adventure!
A great book, and a Peace Corps favorite. .
How to gain the right outlook to live well. I've read it 3x so far.

Narrator Jacqui Du Toit’s tone changes from bright and naïve to stunned and pained as 13-year-old Naledi witnesses her brother’s crime. That event makes it clear why she feels the need to betray him years later. Du Toit’s accent reflects the novel’s South African setting. You can hear young Naledi’s coy grins as she details her sheltered family life and living in the glow of her brother Basi.
