In and Around Warner
From Varrick Proper, manager of the Transfer station:
Last Wednesday, 30 March, the Transfer Station experienced the loss of the electric motor that runs the trash compactor. It has been determined that the motor cannot be repaired and must be replaced. A new motor has been ordered with arrival expected late this week with installation possibly early next week.
In the interim a large open topped container has been placed in the pit where the trash box usually sits. This arrangement confines traffic to the left side of the compactor and limits us in the volume of material we can receive. While we are still taking trash we ask that you be cognizant of the restraints we are operating under; in other words this is not the weekend to be cleaning out the barn.
Please know this has no effect on the recycling aspect of our operation. Our thanks for your understanding and our thanks to the Highway Department for coming in several times over the weekend to press down and swap out the trash boxes.
Warner Transfer and Recycling Station will be closed Easter Sunday, April 17.

Got a book that bores into your brain, a tome that becomes a permanent member of your interior bookshelf? A favorite to read time and again? A book that "Wows!"
Several of my "Wow!" fiction favorites:
Great Expectations (Dickens) - Old Miss Havisham, jilted at the altar long ago, still wearing her tattered wedding gown. Pip in love with Estella. (Read it 4 times...so far!)
Saint Maybe (Tyler) - On one terrible evening, Ian Bedloe's life is changed forever. Tragedy, humor, and the dignity of perseverance served up in Anne Tyler style.
Howard's End (Forster) - What happens when the energetic, bookish Schlegel family - Margaret, Helen, and "Tibby" - run into the stern Wilcox clan? One of E. M. Forster's best.
The Hound of the Baskervilles (Conan Doyle) - Be warned! Avoid the Moor "in those dark hours when the powers of evil are exalted." Thrilling, timeless detective fiction.

Olivia was yelled at for wearing a tank top when she had to keep her sweatshirt wrapped around her waist. Liza got dress coded and Molly didn't, even though they were wearing the exact same outfit. Jessica was pulled over by the principal, missed a math quiz, and her teacher gave her an F. Molly starts a podcast protesting that it's impossible to find shorts that are longer than her fingertips, and that middle school is hard enough without accusing girls of using their bodies as a distraction. As their small rebellion swells into a revolution, the girls are not backing down.

Dress Coded is nominated for the 2022 Isinglass Awards! To be nominated for this award, it must be voted on by 7th-8th graders in New Hampshire and must be a standalone fiction or nonfiction book. APRIL is Voting month for Isinglass.
