Warrior News: September 2021

At Wahoo Elementary, we work to identify each child's positive attributes, and help him/her develop these talents with a growth mindset.

Students with a growth mindset: 1) EMBRACE Challenges, 2) LEARN from feedback, 3) PERSIST through setbacks, 4) are INSPIRED by the success of others, and 5) value EFFORT as the path to mastery

Personal Devices at School
Many families send their child to school with a personal device of some kind (cell phone, iPod, high-tech watch). Often, parents do this as a safety measure so students can call/text as they travel between school and home. However, the growing number and types of these devices pose a significant distraction during school hours. Moving forward, all devices (including watches) that have the ability to text/call will be kept in backpacks from 7:45 to 3:15. Students are not to use these devices until they leave the elementary building.

Parent FAQ: How will I be notified if there is a confirmed COVID-19 exposure at school?

In the event of a confirmed exposure during the school day, parents of children in the affected classroom will be notified via email as soon as possible and a hard copy of the letter will be sent home with students, as well. Wahoo Public Schools is utilizing the notification letter recommended/provided by Three Rivers Public Health Department.

Lunch: Social Distancing

Beginning Monday, August 30th, students in grades K-5 will be seated with one empty seat between peers (4 per table). Providing this opportunity to practice social distancing during lunch is necessary because wearing masks is not possible while eating. Parents/visitors are welcome to eat with their children at lunch as long as social distancing guidelines (every other seat) is adhered to. Please contact Mr. Kreifels directly if you have questions.

September Events

September 1: Picture Day
September 6: No School (Labor Day)
September 10: Tornado Drill

FastBridge Testing will take place in grades K-5 this month. These assessments are quick and primarily measure early reading skills and fluency.

In cooperation with our PTO Chapter, Wahoo Elementary is pleased to announce the beginning of our local WATCH D.O.G.S. program. WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is a family and community engagement educational initiative. The program aims to provide positive male role models for students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important, and to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security. Use the links below to get the full details of the program and to email Grady Gigstad, Program Coordinator a.k.a "TOP DOG." Additional questions can be directed to Mrs. Cindy Klepper, K-6 School Counselor.
