Maintaining Perspective in Troubling Times
Part 3: A Lesson from C.S. Lewis
Artwork by 11th grade Charlotte VanDyke
Sometimes troubling times disproportionately trouble us because our perspective is too small. When we have our eyes solely on ourselves and our immediate circumstances, we become overwhelmed all too quickly. Maintaining a proper perspective involves maintaining a bigger perspective, and C.S. Lewis has helped me immensely through his book The Great Divorce.

TOMORROW: Friday Half-Day for ES/MS Only
MONDAY: No School for ES/MS/HS (planned break)

Yearbook would like to have your photos!
Because this year's sports section may be a bit sparse, we would like to feature out-of-school sports. Please send in any pictures that feature your child participating in any out-of-school sports or activities. Email to [email protected].
2019-20 YEARBOOK ORDERS ARE DUE Friday, November 6.- $40.00 to the office
Tuition Work Credit
Our Tuition Work Credit was established to help parents offset the cost of tuition by performing tasks at the school. Most of the jobs consist of cleaning our buildings. We currently have a limited number of available positions. If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please email me at [email protected]. Since there are a limited number of openings, we will make offers on a first come, first served basis.
Dinner, Dessert, and a Tax Credit
Enjoy dinner on us at the Edelweiss Restaurant on November 3rd at 6:00 PM for a short twenty-minute presentation on this must-know VA educational tax credit! Zero pressure or ask and bring anyone you would like. We are very passionate about sharing this with our families, because it is a wonderful way to send your tax dollars to GCS, make your donation go further, and it makes great financial sense for many business owners! This credit has been around since 2013, but we expect that the VA legislators will end it after this year. RSVP HERE TODAY! Learn more here.

High School News
Full day this Friday.
No school Monday.
Service day next Friday.
Normally, HS students would be participating in Job Shadowing Day this time of year; however, due to COVID-19 constraints, we are postponing this important event until late winter or early spring. Any questions, concerns, or ideas about this year's event should be directed to George McNair (email)
HS Art Teacher Needed
Mrs. Donna Kocka has been a blessing to our art students and was an answer to prayer, as we were in need of an art teacher just days before the beginning of the school year. She did this sacrificially, as she already had a very busy schedule and stressed that she would only be able to do this for a short time.

We are looking for qualified individuals interested in teaching Introductory Art (Mondays & Tuesdays) and Advanced Art (Thursdays & Fridays) from 2:35-3:20 during this school year. Interested candidates should email our HS principal with a cover letter and a resume/CV. We would also appreciate help from the GCS community with spreading the word about this opportunity.
PARENTS, WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE!
We are dealing with growing incidents of students not following our dress code. We would greatly appreciate our HS parents reviewing the dress code with their HS student(s), and then having the student approach our principal with any questions she/he may have.

Most of these violations are related to proper outerwear when inside and some to boys' hair or facial hair (though not as bad as pictured).

So far, we have only been reminding and warning students, but soon we will be assigning behavioral consequences (even for first-time infractions).
