Yes, I am a veteran of a foreign war, but that is not my identity. My identity is in being a child of Christ.
While we are right to celebrate and enjoy this day, we can have even more joy and pride in our Father who calls us His own.

On Friday, November 7, the NHS went on a hike to Humpback Rocks. It was great to be able to do something safe where everyone could feel comfortable. We not only had a wonderful time of fellowship, we were blessed to experience God’s creation and the beautiful gift of living in the Shenandoah Valley. The hike was a very laid-back and it was a relaxing trip, which is very rare to find these days. This made it that much more special. Through the fellowship and camaraderie created on the hike, I hope the NHS will stick together through this time and see that there are moments of hope created by God. Through and for God, I know the NHS will be encouraged to continue to serve our community as a whole in selflessness.

PE Personal Workout Hours
Freshman and Sophomore students who are not signed up for winter sports should plan to complete a Personal Workout Form this quarter. Students must log 27 hours of physical activity on the form, and the form must be signed by a parent before being submitted to the front desk by the end of the quarter. Students who compete in two GCS affiliated sports this school year will meet their PE requirements. However, a student who plays only one sport must complete 54 hours over two quarters. Students who play no sports must complete 81 total hours over the final three quarters of the school year.

Class Rings & Graduation Materials
A sales representative from Jostens will be at the HS on Wednesday, November 18 during the lunch period (11:57-12:27) to discuss any questions your student may have and to take orders.
Information packets along with order forms will be distributed to seniors, juniors, and sophomores before this visit. Orders can be placed with the representative on the 18th, or later online
Seniors will be measured for caps and gowns and should bring their order forms to record their measurements. We also ask that cap and gown purchases be made as soon as possible but not after December 17 to assure having them for the graduation ceremony.
If Senior families decide to order announcements, please make sure you specifically order name plates. The nameplate is not automatically included in the announcement order.
The representative will be wearing a mask and gloves and will be wiping down everything touched before serving the next student.

College Representative Visit
Bluefield College representatives will be visiting the high school campus on Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 8:45-9:30 AM. Speaking to college admission representatives is a valuable experience for students. During these sessions students expand their awareness of schools and programs with which they may not be familiar. Additionally, these sessions can help cement students' priorities regarding which schools might be the best fit for them.

To culminate next week's Spirit Week, the HS Prefecture will be hosting a Drive-In Movie on Friday, November 20 (7:00-9:00 PM). This activity will take place at the GCS Activity Center (218 Middlebrook Ave., Staunton).

Next week students can dress according the below-listed themes:
Monday: Twin Day
Tuesday: Decades Day
Wednesday: Regular Dress Code

Each student who is wholly participating in a day's theme will earn points for their team. If you are not wholly participating in a day's theme, you are expected to maintain our normal dress code.
As we enjoy these days, we still want to maintain our standards of modesty, appropriateness, cleanliness, and neatness.

Mrs. Donna Kocka has been a blessing to our art students and was an answer to prayer as we were in need of an art teacher just days before the beginning of the school year. She did this sacrificially, as she already had a very busy schedule and stressed that she would only be able to do this for a short time.
We are looking for qualified individuals interested in teaching Introductory Art (Mondays & Tuesdays) and Advanced Art (Thursdays & Fridays) from 2:35-3:20 during this school year. Interested candidates should email our HS principal with a cover letter and a resume/CV. We would also appreciate help from the GCS community with spreading the word about this opportunity.

A child’s earliest experiences with music will impact how they grow as a musician in the future. Beginning in the Pre-K classes, a strong emphasis is placed on developing true music literacy among our students. What does that mean? It’s being able to “hear what you see and see what you hear.” In order to achieve this, we begin by developing the young child’s ear and sense of rhythm.
Pre-K music classes are reading and writing music!
We learn music much the way we learn language: by hearing sounds, imitating these sounds, giving those sounds a name, and finally connecting those sounds into meaningful patterns. Within the context of language, great works of literature. Within the context of music, great masterpieces.
It is our hope that the students at GCS will take these skills and develop a life-long relationship with music as singers, instrumentalists, composers, and most of all as worshipers of the Lord.
