December 17 - January 4 - No School - Christmas Break
Water Bottles

Please remember to send a water bottle to school each day with your student(s). It is important for all students to remain hydrated, and handling cups of water in the classroom can get messy. We plan to contact the parents of those who are without, in order to give a friendly reminder concerning this matter.
After-School Art - Winter Session

For additional information, please look in the Fine Arts section.
Middle School
On Wednesday, December 16th, the MS will have a Victorian Christmas celebration. The students will have a day of fun, including making cards for local nursing homes, caroling (outside), playing games, and doing a craftall centered around a Victorian celebration. To end the half day of school, the students will enjoy a Bojangles lunch of chicken tenders, a biscuit, and macaroni and cheese. Please send in $5.00 for your student's lunch, as well as any empty paper towel/toilet paper rolls you can contribute to the craft.

Semester 1 Exams
Monday-Wednesday, December 14 - 16 Each of these days is an early-dismissal day for the HS (12:12 dismissal).

Since some students may not have an exam during a particular slot or day, parents may prearrange with us that their HS student (not just juniors & seniors) has sign-out privilege during these three days. Just click the "Schedule" button below to ascertain when that might be, and then click the "Form" button below to download the document whereby a parent/guardian grants this temporary permission.

Parents whose juniors or seniors already have sign-out privilege do not need to submit one of these forms; however, all others must do so before 2:00 PM on Friday, December 11.
Relaxed Dress Code will be in place during all three days of exams.

We do ask that students maintain the standards of modesty, appropriateness, neatness, and cleanliness.

Additionally, we ask that no pajamas, or anything similar, be worn.
Got the Munchies?
During the twenty-minute breaks between the semester exams, the Prefecture will sell a variety of snacks.

Funds raised will help defray the costs of student activities.
National Honor Society - Fundraiser
The NHS will sell hot chocolate and coffee in the lunch room from 7:40-7:55 AM from Thursday (12/10)-Wednesday (12/16). Proceeds will go towards a NHS project to add another picnic table to our front lawn area. The price for either hot beverage will be $0.50. for a medium cup and $1.00 for a large cup.
Juniors & Seniors who have not yet taken an SAT or who want to improve upon their initial score(s) will want to mark the following dates in their calendars, as these are the remaining dates that the SATs can be taken during this school year.
  • March 13
  • May 8
  • June 5
Especially challenging due to COVID-19 restrictions is finding a nearby location, so students and parents are urged to click the below button to find what locations are open on specific dates.
We have been and will continue to display the various items that have made their way to Lost & Found this school year so that students can claim any items that belong to them.

Wednesday, December 16 will be the last day that students can claim items before the remaining unclaimed items are donated to local charitable organizations.
Parent Volunteers Needed
If you have the ability to volunteer for less than 1 hour once a week to help us with COVID-19 cleaning and/or hot lunch distribution, please email Mr. Kerr . We need help on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays with cleaning and Tuesdays with lunch distribution.

If your volunteering cannot begin until after Christmas break, please still email Mr. Kerr as soon as possible.
Traffic Reminder
When picking up (or dropping off) students along Market Street, even if briefly, please do not do so directly in front of the school property. Doing so blocks the bus lanes, causing many problems, not the least of which is the blocking of traffic and leaving our bus with no clearance.

Even when you don't see a bus on the horizon, please do not block the bus lanes, as the City of Staunton has posted signs indicating that those spaces are only for buses. Instead, pull into a different parking spot to unload/load.
Attendance
All emails related to attendance are to be sent to [email protected]. This not only simplifies the process for parents, but it also benefits the GCS employees who handle attendance matters.
