“Who controls the past controls the future.
Who controls the present controls the past.”
1984, George Orwell

George Orwell, in 1984, gave a dystopian view of the future. Much of what he wrote about has become a part of our daily lives, which is one of the reasons that this book is a favorite.

Student Meetings with Guidance Counselor
In the second semester, Mr. McNair will hold individual guidance meetings with each HS student. This will give students a platform to discuss their current school year and also plan for next year.

Meetings with seniors will be scheduled first, followed by freshmen, then sophomores. Juniors will meet with Mr. McNair during their Guidance class. Most meetings will be scheduled on Fridays during the 5th and 6th periods, and specific meeting times will be posted outside of Mr. McNair's office.
SAT Math Workshop
GCS is pleased to welcome the Bob Jones University Math Team on Feb. 26 to lead an SAT Math workshop for juniors and seniors from 1st through 3rd periods.

All juniors should plan to participate in this workshop, and seniors who will be taking the SAT after Feb 26 are strongly encouraged to attend.

Seniors who do not attend this and have sign-out privilege may arrive after 3rd period on this date.
High school students who have received an initial eligibility letter and are interested in joining our NHS Chapter should acquire a candidate packet from the HS receptionist and return any required documents by Friday, January 22nd.

The next opportunity to join our chapter will not occur until next school year.

Athletics Update
Nathan Whisman, senior guard, is quickly approaching the 1,000-point plateau in Varsity Boys basketball. He is 35 points shy of topping the mark. Nathan has played four years at the Varsity level. He is a fiery player who brings energy to the court every time he’s on it. Nathan is looking to play at the college level and will lead the Warriors into the VACA playoffs in three weeks.

Watch him in his next home game this Saturday at 5 PM, vs. SWVHS. It is also Senior Night. We will celebrate our seven seniors.
Thanks to GCS Parents Lou Cozzolino and Jay Reid, aka "Those Guys," who announced our JVB game on homecoming night. Our VG and VB games were canceled twice, consecutively due to COVID protocols at our opponents' schools. So, our JVB were the headlining act in a tough-fought loss to the SWVHS Conquerors. They have a had a great season, going 8-1 so far.
