How to Use a 529 Plan to Pay for GCS Tuition
'Tis Tax Season!
A 529 plan is a tax-advantaged investment account similar to an IRA. It lets you save money for higher education expenses. You can also use it for private primary and secondary school tuition.

Check out this helpful article and talk to your tax preparer to see if this is a good fit for your family!

Guidance Meeting Information
7th-Grade Guidance Meeting - We would like to invite all 7th-grade students and parents to our annual 7th-grade guidance meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 7 PM. The meeting will be held virtually via Google Meet. This meeting is an opportunity to familiarize middle school families with our high school program. GCS has a wonderful track record of preparing students academically and spiritually for the road ahead. We look forward to sharing all that the GCS High School program has to offer.
8th-Grade Guidance Meetings - 8th-grade family guidance meetings will begin during the first week of March. Mr. McNair will sit down with each 8th-grade family to discuss what to expect in the transition from middle school to high school and answer any questions that parents or students might have. Each family may choose to have an in-person meeting at the high school or a virtual meeting via Google Meet. As we approach early March, Mr. McNair will send out a link from signupgenius.com for families to schedule a conference.

Stewardship
After lunch each school day, students divide up into their teams and complete various tasks in order to help keep our building clean.

Periodically, the team who does the best job with their assigned tasks and areas receive a free lunch. For the 2nd Quarter, Team 3 has won that prize. After conferring with the members to determine from which restaurant the lunch will come, a date will be selected, and individual team members will be able to place their orders.
TEAM 3

NOLAN BLACK | SAMUEL CASHION | JULIA DRYER | MADDIE HARPER
MADDIE HELMICK | SAVANNAH JONES |AUDREY LIHOS
DAVID MUSSELMAN | MARTA PERSINGER | CHASE RATIGAN
DERRICK WEEKS | MOLLY WELLS | SOPHIE YEOMANS
Dress-Code Reminder
Girls are never to wear leggings or jeggings to school, unless in combination with a skirt that meets GCS standards. Also, when wearing "skinny jeans," a shirt or blouse that covers the seat must be worn.

Additionally, no student is permitted to wear sweatpants, even on Casual Fridays, unless expressly permitted by the HS Principal.

Finally, while sweatshirts/hoodies with appropriate messaging are permitted on Casual Fridays, only GCS sweatshirts/hoodies may be worn on all other days.

High schoolers are more than capable of understanding and more consistently abiding by our dress code, and when there is a question to approach me. I am looking forward to higher levels of cooperation in the future, but if this does not materialize, I am prepared to take additional steps, including rescinding Casual Fridays.
Student Meetings with Guidance Counselor
In the second semester, Mr. McNair will hold individual guidance meetings with each HS student. This will give students a platform to discuss their current school year and also plan for next year.

Meetings with seniors will be scheduled first, followed by freshmen, then sophomores. Juniors will meet with Mr. McNair during guidance class. Most meetings will be scheduled on Fridays during 5th and 6th periods, and specific meeting times will be posted outside Mr. McNair's office.
SAT Math Workshop
GCS is pleased to welcome the Bob Jones University Math Team on Feb. 26 to lead an SAT Math workshop for juniors and seniors from 1st through 3rd periods.

All juniors should plan to participate in this workshop, and seniors who will be taking the SAT after Feb. 26 are strongly encouraged to attend.

Seniors who do not attend this and have sign-out privilege may arrive after 3rd period on this date.
Volunteers
If you have the ability to volunteer for less than one hour once a week to help with COVID-19 cleaning and/or hot lunch distribution, please email Mr. Kerr. Help is needed on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays with cleaning and Tuesdays with lunch distribution.
