Prayer, Part 2: Pray for GCS
By Brian Fitzgerald,
Discipleship Director
Praying is actually doing something, so I want to encourage you to spend some time this week praying for GCS. At the beginning of the year, we received magnets entitled “Pray for GCS,” and they contain five prayer items. I want to walk through each of them and encourage you to join me in prioritizing these in prayer before the Lord.

Canned Food Drive

To celebrate the 100th day of school we are encouraging each grade in the elementary school to collect 100 canned food items that we will donate to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
The 7th and 8th-grade classes will compete for a no-homework night.
7th-grade cans will be collected in Room #100.
8th-grade cans will be collected in Room #104.

|
Thank you for your generosity with this project. Cans will be collected from now through February 26th.

Important COVID Reminder
from Mrs. Morel
|
|
Dear Families,
As you know well, every day we are in school together is a triumphant day!! It says we are winning our battle against COVID! Every one of you plays a part in ensuring this victory. It doesn't mean we will be totally COVID-free, but it does mean we are doing a good job of keeping outbreaks to a minimum so that we can still keep our doors open.
Although we are all incredibly tired of having to quarantine again and again, now is the time to stay proactive. We cannot let down our guard!! If your child feels sick, PLEASE keep them home...even if you think it’s just a cold. The risk of it not being a cold may be slight but still too great a risk for us to take at school.
If anyone in the family is being tested for COVID, all household students and staff must stay home until those tests results come back. Again, the risk may seem slight, but it’s still a risk we cannot afford to take.
Let me encourage you to keep filling out the HealthCheck app honestly and accurately. If you have any questions, call Mandy Wells in my office (540) 886-0937. She is well-versed in answering any question you have about COVID.
We are in this together, and if we continue to think of others first, we will not only get through this, but we will be a better GCS community for it! Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do in this most unusual school year. Lord willing, next year will be much more “normal”!
Blessings,
Cherie Morel

Guidance Meeting Information
|
|
7th-Grade Guidance Meeting - We would like to invite all 7th-grade students and parents to our annual 7th-grade guidance meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 7 PM. The meeting will be held virtually via Google Meet. This meeting is an opportunity to familiarize middle school families with our high school program. GCS has a wonderful track record of preparing students academically and spiritually for the road ahead. We look forward to sharing all that the GCS High School program has to offer.

|
8th-Grade Guidance Meetings - 8th-grade family guidance meetings will begin during the first week of March. Mr. McNair will sit down with each 8th-grade family to discuss what to expect in the transition from middle school to high school and answer any questions that parents or students might have. Each family may choose to have an in-person meeting at the high school or a virtual meeting via Google Meet. As we approach early March, Mr. McNair will send out a link from signupgenius.com for families to schedule a conference.

GCS Basketball Seasons
Come to a Close
|
|
|
Our GCS Basketball seasons came to a close this past week. Congratulations to our MSB and JVB teams, as they won the VACA North Region Championships. Our VG team lost on the road in the VACA State Quarterfinals to a tough Roanoke Valley team. Sadly, our MSG and VB teams had their seasons end abruptly due to COVID-19 exposures, both on the day their playoff runs began. Along with our JVG team, the other five Middle and High School teams were all able to have a season in a very turbulent and trying year. Congratulations to all of the players and coaches for the entertainment.
