By Donald M. Larson, PhD
These days, asking the question “What is Science?” is similar to asking the question “What is Truth?” Our postmodern woke culture uses the word “science” frequently. Fezzik (Andre the Giant) in The Princess Bride captures a perfect response when he says to Inigo Montoya, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

During this time of year, there are often questions and speculations about who will and will not be returning next year. To minimize this, we are recognizing those who have served and those who are departing from the GCS family at the end of the school year. Some turnover is expected.

On Friday, March 26, HS students and faculty will leave GCS after 3rd-period classes to travel to Victory Worship Center to enjoy some activities, lunch, and learn about "Godly Relationships."
Parents should pick up their HS students from VWC (200 Hammond Lane, Staunton) after 3:20 PM. Riders of the Waynesboro shuttle will be picked up from this location.
Also on Friday, March 26, we are celebrating Senior Appreciation Day. During 1st period seniors will enjoy a Senior Breakfast prepared by Mrs. Artley and other senior parent volunteers (don't avoid answering her calls or responding to her texts). Then from 1:00-1:50 PM, in the midst of the Great Escape, we will have the Senior Appreciation (Roast) Assembly. Senior parents are invited to attend this assembly, which is being held in Victory Worship Center's sanctuary (see address above).
On Wednesday, March 17, GCS 8th-grade students will be brought to the HS to observe two classes of their choosing, participate in a chapel led by Dr. Larson, and enjoy a Chick-fil-A lunch.
An email with some additional details and a link to a Google Form to select classes and menu options was sent this past Monday, so if you have an 8th-grade GCS student but have not yet received this, please email Mr. Kerr immediately.
Thanks to the efforts of the GCS IT Department, we were blessed this week with the arrival of additional Chromebooks that are being used in the classroom and during study halls.
Even so, we are missing some Chromebooks and many power cords. We would appreciate those being returned, whether checked out for homebound instruction or for some other purpose. Please have these returned to our receptionist.
If you have the availability to volunteer for less than one hour once a week to help with COVID-19 cleaning and/or hot lunch distribution, please email Mr. Kerr. Help is needed on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays with cleaning and Wednesdays with lunch distribution.
