When it comes to servant leadership, Raymond believes, "Leadership is not about being the most important person in the room. It is about taking responsibility for the people who have trusted you."
Whether he was serving in the military or serving clients today, that mindset has never changed.
What lesson from the military does Raymond hope he never loses? Accountability.
He says, "That lesson has stayed with me throughout my career and now in my business. If a client entrusts something to me, I want them to know I own it. If there is a problem, my first instinct is not to figure out who is to blame. It is to figure out what needs to happen next."
That really resonated with me because accountability isn't just about doing your job well. It's about honoring the trust someone places in you.
Raymond continued, "I hope I never lose that mindset because service, at its core, is about trust. Whether someone is trusting you beside them in the military or trusting you with an important moment in their life, you have an obligation to do everything you reasonably can to honor that trust."
Service isn't always loud. Sometimes it's simply being dependable. It's keeping your word. It's paying attention to the details. It's showing up when someone needs you most.
Thank you, Raymond Giles, for continuing to serve long after your military career ended. Thank you for showing us that leadership is rooted in humility, service is built on trust, and that some of life's greatest gifts aren't things at all - they're the moments we share with the people we love.
Raymond's personal philosophy says it best: "Don't miss your next time."
