Warrior Wellness Monthly

As we welcome the warmth and vitality of summer, June serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of growth, connection, and awareness. This month, we honor PTSD Awareness Month and National Men’s Health Month—two critical areas that touch the lives of many in our community. PTSD Awareness Month encourages us to deepen our understanding and compassion for those affected. It’s an opportunity to listen, support, and advocate for mental health resources and education. National Men’s Health Month highlights the need for men to prioritize their health and well-being. We encourage all men to take proactive steps in nurturing their physical and mental health, knowing that self-care is a crucial part of supporting those we love. Summer is also a time for spending cherished moments with family and friends—strengthening our bonds and creating memories that last a lifetime. Let’s use this season to grow, give and love—not only for ourselves but for those around us.

With gratitude,

Gabe & Ashley Onofre

Finding Serenity: A Journaling and Self-Care Workshop for Advocates

May 28th was truly inspiring, as child advocates from CASA of Galveston County came together to prioritize their well-being through journaling and self-care practices. Everyone’s openness and shared insights created a warm, supportive atmosphere, reminding us of the importance of taking time for ourselves amidst the important work we do. It was a wonderful reminder that caring for ourselves enhances our ability to serve others with compassion and resilience.

CASA of Galveston County is dedicated to recruiting, training and supervising community members to advocate for children experiencing foster care. Volunteer advocates are the consistent presence in these children’s lives when they need it the most. Learn more at https://casagalveston.org/

We are deeply grateful to the Vietnam Veterans of America Galveston County Chapter 685 and Operation Honor Our Local Veterans for organizing

The 31st Annual Watch Fire Memorial at Jack Brooks Park - a powerful remembrance of our fallen heroes. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten. May we always honor and remember their courage and dedication.

“The one thing I’ve realized in working with the horses... when you see them, you know God created them just for you, for this moment.” - US Army Veteran

Some of our favorite days are spent journaling with veterans! These incredible veterans, from The Warriors Refuge, are part of Rainbow of Hope's Thunder Hooves Equine Program - experiencing healing, connection and strength through the power of the horse and reflective journaling.

June is PTSD Awareness Month! Warrior Spirit is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to those affected by trauma, recognizing that not all wounds are visible.

Our diverse therapeutic services, mental wellness education, journaling classes and self-care education, are designed to empower veterans, first responders, teachers, individuals in recovery and youth. Our mental health and recovery peer support services further enhance this journey by fostering community and shared understanding.

Research shows that these approaches can reduce PTSD symptoms by up to 70% or more, offering effective pathways to healing. Through emotional expression, trust-building and supportive environments, we are committed to helping individuals find hope and resilience. YOU can help us provide more peer support and therapeutic services to those in need in Galveston, Brazoria, Brazos, Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery and Washington counties through a one-time donation at DONATE

Thank you to HEB Operation Appreciation and Rainbow of Hope for making our Healing Horizons equine & mental health event on May 17th a life-changing experience for veterans and those who serve them! If you would like to host a Healing Horizons event for your staff, board of directors or a group you serve, please reach out to Gabe at Gabe.Onofre@warriorspirittexas.org
