We were incredibly honored to receive one of the VIPS – Veterans in Public Service – Awards from Renee Rodriguez & Operation Honor Our Local Veterans of Galveston County!

Happy Veterans Day!

Today, we pause to honor all who have worn our nation’s uniform — the men and women who have served with courage, sacrifice and unwavering devotion. As an Army veteran, I understand the calling and the cost of service. And as the mother of an airman in the Navy, Ashley knows the pride and prayers that come with being part of a military family.

This day holds deep meaning for us — not only as a veteran and a military family, but as people whose lives are dedicated to walking alongside others who serve. Throughout Veterans and Military Families Month, we celebrate each of you who have stood the watch, held the line and supported those who do.

As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, we’re reminded that gratitude is more than a word — it’s a way of life. We are deeply thankful for our veterans, military families and all who serve them. Your faith, support and encouragement make it possible for Warrior Spirit to continue bringing healing, hope and restoration to those who have given so much.

With gratitude,

Gabe & Ashley Onofre

On November 7th, Warrior Spirit was honored to attend The Warriors Refuge Inaugural Gala, a WWII 1940s-themed event dedicated to raising funds for The Warriors Refuge shelter and vital services for veterans. The evening was a meaningful celebration of community, purpose and support for those who have served our nation. The following day, Warrior Spirit partnered with Rainbow of Hope staff and board of directors to provide The Warriors Refuge veterans with a preview of the upcoming Thunder Hooves Program. The event offered a day of fishing, equine connection, fellowship and fajitas, fostering camaraderie and hope among all who attended. Together, we continue to stand alongside our veteran community — empowering healing, connection and purpose through partnership and compassion.

Servant Spotlight: Mighty Oaks Foundation

Finding Hope and Healing: A Legacy Retreat Experience

In October, Warrior Spirit Executive Director and Army Veteran Gabe Onofre attended the Mighty Oaks Foundation’s Legacy Retreat in California — a life-changing week focused on helping veterans, first responders and their families heal from trauma and rediscover purpose through faith in Christ.

For those who have endured trauma, the aftermath can feel like a waking nightmare — anxiety, sleeplessness, fear and hypervigilance that often spiral into hopelessness. But healing is possible. Mighty Oaks points men and women to the ultimate source of restoration: Jesus Christ — the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The Mighty Oaks journey begins with an intensive six-day, peer-based program designed to help participants face the struggles of service, combat and post-traumatic stress in a safe, faith-centered environment. Through teaching, team-building and shared experience, attendees learn practical tools and biblical strategies to break free from the past and move forward into the life they were created to live.

In just one month, 133 participants — including veterans, active-duty service members, first responders, spouses and international partners — graduated from Mighty Oaks Legacy Programs

Gabe reflected on his own experience, “It was a powerful reminder that no matter how deep the wounds, healing is possible — because Christ restores, redeems and calls us to live with purpose.”

Each Mighty Oaks Legacy Program is completely free of charge to those accepted — including travel, lodging, and meals — removing barriers so participants can focus fully on their healing journey.

If you or someone you know is struggling with trauma or searching for direction, we encourage you to apply for an upcoming Legacy Program. Step away from the noise, reconnect with your faith and rediscover hope that lasts.

Because healing isn’t just possible - it’s promised.

Service Remembered.

Strength Honored.

Today, we pause with deep gratitude for all who have served — and for those who’ve taken the time to honor them through a Warriors Wall tribute. Your tributes remind us that behind every uniform is a story — of courage, love and sacrifice — and behind every tribute is someone who refuses to let that story be forgotten. If you haven’t yet shared your tribute, there’s no better day than today to do so. Submit your message and photo at www.warriorspirittexas.org/warriorswall
