3rd Quarter Report - May 2021 - Vol 1, Issue 2
Message from the Chair
This newsletter is a place to highlight the incredible strengths of our department. We continue to find ways to show up during this season of enormous challenge and change. As we reflect on our last quarter, we acknowledge unconscionable loss. We have faced personal losses and illnesses as the COVID-19 pandemic persists - locally and globally. Our hearts are with families in India where the death toll keeps rising. We struggle against ongoing anti-Black racist violence, despite a brief moment of accountability from the Derek Chauvin conviction for George Floyd’s murder. We mourn the senseless murders of Asian Americans and stand with Asian American and Pacific Islanders. Our department is committed to collective change and we are working towards more inclusion, diversity, equity, and advancement in the Department of OB/GYN and at WashU.

Spring has sprung. We continue to change and grow. We wish the best to colleagues who are moving on as we welcome new colleagues to our department. And we find ways to support and celebrate each other. We hope you enjoy reading about some of our accomplishments over the past quarter. Thank you for all you do!

Dr. Lauren Kus is one of our second year residents, fiercely passionate about advocacy and promoting wellness across residency training. She is our new GME Resident Wellness representative, and talks about what’s happening here. A former competitive volleyball player, Dr. Kus is no stranger to feedback and growth. She talks with Dr. Kenan Omurtag (REI) and Dr. Andrea Hagemann (Gyn Onc) about how to get comfortable with the uncomfortable nature of giving and receiving feedback that leads to growth. Thank you, Dr. Kus, for joining us!
