Washington County is working toward becoming Maryland’s
first
Work Ready Community. Receiving this credential will both strengthen our local economy and improve our quality of life. This collaboration will align education-to-employer needs to attract, retain, and expand a skilled workforce. This nationally recognized credential can provide access to employment and a sustainable income by January 2021. Key strategists representing the County have been meeting to collaboratively discuss how we can emerge, transition, and set goals for how to test students, under-employed, and unemployed workers. There have also been discussions about how to gain business and community support, which will consist of identifying employers in the transportation, manufacturing and healthcare sectors and familiarizing them with the National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) certificate. This certification process will serve as an indicator for college and career readiness and will indicate the support of the county initiative through a letter of partnership as part of the ACT Work Ready Community designation. We are moving forward with full implementation of this initiative and are seeking support from core stakeholders to champion and support this program. To get involved, please email
