On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the City of Cornelius, in partnership with Centro Cultural de Washington County, and the Washington County Sheriff's Office, hosted the Ninth Annual Cornelius Community Dinner. Partners were delighted to serve a free holiday meal to all community members.
The event was held at Cornelius Elementary School and served nearly 500 meals!
The dinner was made possible through the collaboration and generous donations of multiple community partners and wonderful volunteers who contributed to this event’s success.
The chance to share a meal and engage in conversation with fellow community members is what makes the Cornelius Community Dinner a truly special and favorite event for many. It brings people together, providing a sense of warmth and connection during the holiday season.
The planning committee looks forward to continuing this cherished tradition that holds great meaning to our community, spreading holiday cheer as we enter the season of giving.
We look forward to seeing you next year!

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 1:49 a.m., deputies working in the City of Cornelius observed a car that was failing to maintain its lane.
They noted that one tire on the car was flat and another was shredded. As the driver continued, the car traveled on the rim, causing it to bounce noticeably. Deputies determined that just 20 minutes earlier, this same car had been driven on railroad tracks in the City of Hillsboro.
Deputies stopped the vehicle and later arrested the driver for DUII and Reckless Driving. The investigating deputy applied for and obtained a search warrant to collect blood evidence from the driver in this case.

Stolen WCCCA Radio Recovered
In early November, a Forest Grove Police sergeant informed the Sheriff’s Office of a report from a Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency (WCCCA) radio tech that a radio with WCCCA frequencies was posted for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
Suspecting it was stolen, the radio tech asked the seller for the serial number of the radio and was able to confirm it had previously been stolen from a Washington County Land Use and Transportation tractor.
At this point, Sheriff’s Office detectives contacted the seller and asked to purchase the radio. The seller was attempting to get $450 for it, despite its approximate value of $4,000. A meet up time for the sale was set up, and when the seller arrived, a Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy was able to take them into custody. They have since been charged with theft in the first degree.
The radio was recovered thanks to the WCCCA employee's great awareness and the interdepartmental and interagency cooperation of law enforcement personnel around the county.
