Sgt. O'Reilly & K9 Radar Receive Award
|
On October 24th, Sergeant O’Reilly and K9 Radar were honored with the Community Member of the Year Award by the Beaverton School District at the 2024 BSD Awards Ceremony.
This award recognizes Sgt. O’Reilly’s collaboration with the Beaverton Education Foundation and Aloha High School’s Structured Routines Center (SRC), a specialized program that supports students experiencing disabilities by focusing on behavior, communication, social skills, adaptive skills, and modified academics.
Led by SRC Teacher and Case Manager William Rourke Lowe, students baked, packaged, marketed, sold, and delivered their Doggie Dots dog treats.
Earlier this year, Sergeant O’Reilly and Radar visited the students and were introduced to the dog treats. Inspired by their efforts, Sgt. O’Reilly shared their story on his popular Instagram account. That boost in publicity helped SRC raise more than $25,000 in less than 48 hours and far exceeded their $15,000 goal, resulting in a final total of $35,000.
Thanks to the students' hard work and sales success, the program was able to move into a new classroom equipped with a kitchen and storeroom. This allowed the students to complete all aspects of the program—except delivery—within the classroom. The funds also helped launch other initiatives, like the Coffee Caboose, to enable more SRC students to engage in community involvement through similar hands-on experiences.
We are so proud of Sgt. O'Reilly, K9 Radar, and all the students who participated in this incredible work happening in our community.

Have you previously received alerts through the CodeRed system?
In 2021, Washington County transitioned to a new emergency alert system, Everbridge.
Everbridge allows us to send targeted emergency information to communities, including notifications for wildfires, floods, and missing persons. It also gives us a direct line to let you know if your neighborhood has a public safety concern.
When signing up, individuals can choose their preferred method for receiving time-sensitive information, such as via landline phone, cell phone, email, text message and more.
Even if you had an account before on CodeRed, you’ll need to sign up again to keep receiving alerts. Make sure to register today to stay informed at https://www.publicalerts.org/signup.

Don’t let the Grinch take your holiday packages. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office acts against package thieves in our community, but we can’t do it without your help!
Here are some tips to keep your packages safe and secure:
-
Track your packages: Use the tracking numbers provided and stay updated on the delivery status. Know when to expect your packages and plan to secure them promptly.
-
Provide delivery instructions: Request packages to be placed in a secure location or ask delivery companies to require a signature before dropping them off.
-
Opt for in-store pickup: When available, you can pick up your packages from a local store or delivery locker.
-
Do not leave packages unattended: If you plan on being gone for an extended period, ask family, friends, or neighbors to pick up packages.
-
Stay connected: Use text notifications to receive updates on your deliveries. Let your neighbors know if you had a package stolen so they can stay vigilant.
To report suspicious activity or if you are a victim of package theft, please call the non-emergency number at 503-629-0111. If you see a crime in progress, call 9-1-1.
You can also file a police report online if the crime fits the reporting requirements at https://bit.ly/WCSO_Reporting.
Let’s work together to prevent crime in our community!

National Family Caregivers Month
November is National Family Caregivers Month, dedicated to recognizing and honoring essential caregivers. Families are often the primary source of support for older adults and people with disabilities.
WCSO’s Elder Safe Specialist provides community members with information about Washington County’s Family Caregiver Program, which offers many services and resources, support groups, counseling, workshops and conferences, and medical equipment and supplies.
Let’s take a moment to thank caregivers for their dedication and support!

Thank You for Joining Us!
During October, deputies stopped by three local coffee shops in Bethany, Hillsboro, and Cornelius for Coffee with a Cop. These events provided us the opportunity to connect with the community we serve.
Thank you to everyone who attended our recent Coffee with a Cop events! We loved connecting, hearing your stories, and answering your questions. Your engagement and support strengthen our community, and we appreciate the chance to build relationships over coffee.
A huge thank you to Bethany Starbucks, Big River Coffee, and Cornelius Starbucks for hosting these events and providing delicious coffee and pastries!
We look forward to seeing you at future events!
