President's Message
Summer is ending. I can't believe how fast the summer went this year. My summer started with attending the CMSA National Conference in Las Vegas in June followed by vacation time in Montana in July and August. I hope everyone was able to have some fun this summer and get out and do something you enjoy. If you have never attended the national conference I would highly recommend attending. The conference is in Boston next year June 28 to July 2. If you have never been to Boston it is a fabulous city with significant history of the country's early beginnings. Consider extending over the 4th of July as Boston is known as one of the best fireworks in the nation.
School has started as we get used to seeing the school buses on the road and we get back into our fall routines. We had a great meeting at Cedar Creek Memory Care Community. I want to thank Terri Wilson for hosting WMCMA and providing tours of the community. It is a beautiful community. Please consider visiting if you have a chance. Dr. Jeff Skolnick gave an engaging presentation The SatoriWest Method: A New Approach to Mental Illness and Chemical Dependency. Thank you to Cascade Behavioral Health who supported WMCMA with the presentation.
WMCMA is gearing up for our busy fall season. We have two events that happen every fall that offer information and inspiration as well as an opportunity to grow your case management skills and practice. The first event is our annual Fall Conference on Thursday October 10th at the Embassy Suites in Lynnwood. This year's theme is "New advances in Cardiac Treatment and Legislative Updates". The Fall Conference is during National Case Management Week and the theme this year is Transitioning Patients and Case Managers to Greatness. As Case Managers we are experts at care transitions and assisting our patient to achieve greatness.
Our annual WMCMA Gives Back in December ends our year. This year we are celebrating at the Museum of Flight on December 5th from 12-5. We celebrate our accomplishments over the past year and have a silent auction which raises money for a charity. We are looking for an agency to recognize their charitable works and donate the proceeds of the silent auction. You can send suggestions to [email protected]. Members will vote in November to select the agency.
Our board elections happen in November. You are all invited and strongly encouraged to participate in our upcoming Board Member nomination and election process. There are positions for the 2019 officers and general board seats available. The opportunity to serve on the board is a great experience and many say it enhances their case management practice. Please take a moment to consider this opportunity either for you or if you know someone who might be interested, please reach out to them.
If you are considering running for the board and have questions, please do not hesitate to email me or call me directly at [email protected] or 425-503-7157.
As I close, I want to leave you with this thought and challenge as we head towards Case Management Week.
Thought: When things don't go your way or when you are challenged by seemingly insurmountable obstacles, remember it's how you react to these challenges that shapes who you are.
Challenge: When bad things happen think about how you want to deal with it. Improve your attitude by changing your frame of reference and gain strength is dealing with the issue.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I'll see you at the Fall Conference on October 10th.
Sincerely.
Kathy Parry

We have been working this past year to find better locations for our monthly Lunch & Learn meetings. Based on our meeting attendee feedback we focused on lunch time accessibility and parking. We also wished to bring our meetings into facilities that are in the industry that we all serve in, not a random hotel.

Not Getting your CEUs from WMCMA?
WMCMA sends all WMCMA program evaluations and CEs online via email. Attendees should receive an email with the link to the program evaluation and CE instructions within a few days of the CE presentation. Attendees have one week to complete the evaluation. Once that one week deadline has passed, attendees who requested a CE will receive the CCM certificate via email. If you attended our programs and did not receive the evaluation email within a few days, contact us at
[email protected] or (425) 329-9456.
Please note that while MOST of our educational programs have CEs attached to them, some don't due to restrictions by the speaker/sponsor. This will be noted in the event information.
