November Newsletter - 2023

Hello Neighborhood!


We hope you all had a safe Halloween and we are looking forward to coming together again as a community several times in the month of November.


It is important to note that we have a neighborhood clean-up on November 11th from 9:00-11:00am. We will meet at the Washington Park Activity Center and we will be cleaning up our park and if you would like support, cleaning some alleys as well. We will have everything you will need for this project and will reward all our helpers with lunch and a give-a-way at the end. Click here to view the flyer.


We also have our November meeting coming up on the 14th from 6:00pm-7:00pm at the Washington Park Activity Center. We have many exciting speakers including:


  • Community Action Officer
  • Department of Homeless Solutions - discussing what the City of Phoenix is doing to help

City of Phoenix Information

Annual Action Plan

The City of Phoenix will be working with Housing and Urban Development with create the 2024-2025 action plan. The plan will develop strategies to address housing, community development needs, and current market conditions as the City of Phoenix decides how to use the $135 million dollars in HUD funding.


Therefore, the City of Phoenix is looking for input from the public to help identify needs throughout the community. The survey will be open through January 5th. Click here to take the survey.

Maricopa Association of Governments


The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is working on a plan to address air quality concerns.


MAG is looking for your priorities, so click here to take the 5 minute survey and share your thoughts on making Maricopa a more sustainable place to live.

Special Bond Election


The Phoenix Water Services Department is providing incentives for homeowners to take a more conservative approach to their water usage.


You can receive $75 for the purchase and installation of a water saving toilet and another $75 for the purchase and installation of a Smart Irrigation Controller.

Community Canopy Grant Program


The City's Office of Heat Response and Mitigation has two great opportunities to get more trees in our neighborhood.


There is a program for kids to plant trees and for individuals families to get trees for their yards.


If you are interested in participating in one or both of these programs, please click here.

Expanding Micromobility Program


The City of Phoenix the Shared Micromobility Program in January 2023 with Vendors Lime and Spin to help residents get around more easily. These programs offer not only scooters, but bikes as well. To see the current boundaries for these programs, click here.


With that said, the City of Phoenix is looking to expand that program. To give your input on the expansion of this program, click here.

Office of Homeless Solutions


There has been a lot of concern regarding the homeless in the park. Please check out the October data dashboard from the Office of Homeless Solutions by clicking here to learn about the numbers and what the City of Phoenix is doing to address this problem.


Also, mark your calendars, because The Office of Homeless Solutions will be our featured speaker at the November 14th neighborhood meeting!

Opioid Epidemic Survey


The City of Phoenix is receiving opioid settlement money and they want your feedback on best ways to invest and spend that money. Click here to give your opinion. It should only take about 10 minutes.

As a book club we have picked the next three books so members of the community will have ample time to read or consider joining our discussions.


Our next books are:


  • A Tree Grows in Brooklynn - November 10th (We are watching the movie afterwards)
  • A Lesson in Chemistry - December 8th

Front Yard Fridays

Front Yard Fridays starts again this month! This is a great way to start your weekend. Bring a chair and a snack to share while enjoying the nice weather and the company of your neighbors.

November Meeting

This month we are meeting on November 14th at the Washington Park Activity Center in the Palo Verde room.

We will also have a 50/50 raffle (bring those dollars) along with several giveaways.


And if you want to bring a treat to share, we won't say no. :)

Fall Clean-Up

We are coming together as a community to clean-up our park, so come join us!


When: November 11th


Time: 9am-11am


Where: Washington Park Activity Center


What to bring: Yourself in your purple Washington Park Shirt (if you don't have one, we will give you one to have).


We will provide pizza, water, and gatorade to all volunteers. We will also have a Starbucks give-a-way to one of our lucky volunteers.

GAIN Day


Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our GAIN Event! We were able to meet a lot of new neighbors and welcome them to our community.


We had over 400 people in attendance, and it has been reported it was the most successful GAIN event that day.


I will also add, that we had over 15 volunteers from our organization, which is the most we have ever had!


We cannot do these things without you all and we appreciate all your support. Below are two photos of community members with the Mayor of Phoenix, Kate Gallego, and our Councilwoman, Betty Guardado.

Police and Safety Updates
Crime Stop
Let's all work together to keep Washington Park Neighborhood safe. If you ever see any questionable activity, please call Crime Stop and make a report. It is easy to do and only takes a few minutes of your time.
