How should I get rid of my

unwanted latex paint?

This is one of the most frequent questions that comes through the Hamilton County Recycling Hotline (513-946-7766) on a weekly basis. Luckily for all of us, there are a couple outlets locally that can put it to good use.

Consider dropping off useable (still liquid and never been frozen) latex paint to:

If neither of the above options work, latex paint when dried properly can be placed in your regular garbage. The paint needs to be completely solidified and without it's lid. Watch our fun video for instructions.

STATE GRANTS TO ELIMINATE WASTE

Do you know a community, business, nonprofit, or school that could use assistance in funding to begin or expand recycling programs, encourage sustainable practices, develop recycling markets or support litter prevention efforts? The Ohio EPA Recycling and Litter Prevention grant opens November 2, 2020.

There are four different grants available. For specific information on these grants, visit Recycle Ohio Grant. It is important to note private businesses wishing to apply for a Market Development Grant or a Scrap Tire Grant need to notify the District prior to November 24, 2020, due to the requirement of a government sponsor. If your business wishes to apply for one of these two grants, please email Jenny Lohmann. In addition, feel free to reach out to us directly if you have further questions on these grants.

HOLIDAY LIGHTS RECYCLING

Many people over the next couple of months will be discovering faulty decorative lights that no longer light up the holiday season.

Thankfully, Cohen Recycling and a handful of local partners like the Great Parks of Hamilton County are coming together to provide convenient and safe locations to drop off these unwanted lights for residents across the entire region. This provides an opportunity to divert waste from our landfills in favor of recycling.

This program will run from November 1 to February 1 and there is no cost to drop off the lights. Please do not include boxes or bags with your lights.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR ORGANIC WASTE

Leaves & other yard trimmings starting to pile up?

Easily divert natural materials from the landfill by composting them at one of our Yard Trimmings Drop-Off sites. Click here for exact locations and drop-off instructions. These locations close for the season on December 6! We encourage residents to practice social distancing and wear a mask when dropping off material.

What can I do about my food scraps?

Food accounts for over 20% of the waste that enters our landfills. Reduce that percentage by using one of our region's growing network of affordable compost services. Besides drop-off service, curbside pickup of your food scraps are available depending on your location. Run a business? Commercial services are also available.
