Watauga County Public Library

Dear readers:

In case you haven’t heard, The Friends of the Watauga County Public Library have a new and improved book sale room named “Books and Crannies”. The room and area houses approximately 3500 books as well as magazines, music and books on CDs, DVDs, and jigsaw puzzles. You can find almost any kind of book here — from children’s books to recent best-selling fiction, westerns, history and biography, crafts and gardening, vintage and oversized books. With the additional shelf space, the Friends have been able to add magazines, music and books on CDs, DVDs, and jigsaw puzzles.

All proceeds go directly to the Friends and in turn the library. Prices range anywhere from $0.25-$5.50, so it is affordable for most of us. Please come and see us…I promise you won't be disappointed!

A huge thank you and congratulations go out to Doris Isaacs, recent recipient of the Hugh Hagaman Volunteer of the Year Award. Doris had a big hand in the renovation of the sale room and coordinates all matters related to book donations.

A big thank you goes out to Dr. Susan Keefe, Pegge Laine, Roberta Jackson, Lynn Patterson, and Carolyn Grimes for appearing at the Friends annual meeting and sharing information about the creation of two beloved local books: The Junaluska ABC Book and Junaluska: Oral Histories of a Black Appalachian Community.

Unfortunately, while the sport is categorized as low-impact and mild-intensity, pickleball injuries are growing, too. Join the Tea and Coffee Tuesdays with AARP team for a conversation with Professor Tamar Semerjian, department chair of kinesiology at San Jose State University, on what you can do to stay injury-free while playing pickleball.
