2021 Home Builders Blitz Dedication
Home sweet home! On September 9, we celebrated four new Habitat homeowners on their successful journey to homeownership and our incredible 2021 Home Builders Blitz partners who made these affordable homes possible. Thank you to our partners AECOM, Clark Construction, Thrivent, Turner Construction, and The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company for their generous sponsorship of the four new homes, which they helped us build in just three months!

Last month, we kicked off another affordable home development in partnership with Delta Air Lines here in Los Angeles. This house, which is being rehabbed and upgraded for energy efficiency, will be the 11th Habitat LA home fully sponsored by Delta Air Lines through its commitment to support the communities where its employees live, work and serve.
Congratulations to Kyla C, One of Habitat LA's Newest Partner Homebuyers
Watch the special moment when we surprised Kyla and her mom Jennifer by informing them that they were selected to purchase a new, affordable home through our Homeownership Program. Kyla will be the first person in her family to own a home.

Their Habitat home was generously built and sponsored by The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company during our 2021 Home Builders Blitz this summer. Kyla and her mom are looking forward to moving into their beautiful new home soon!
Celebrating World Habitat Day 2021
More than 35 years ago, the United Nations General Assembly took an important step in promoting the idea that everyone deserves a decent place to live by declaring that the first Monday in October would be World Habitat Day. During this year’s World Habitat Day on Monday, October 4, Habitat for Humanity joined the United Nations and organizations around the world in raising awareness and in educating and mobilizing individuals and communities to take action on the current global housing challenge. Read Habitat’s newest report, “A Ladder Up: The construction sector’s role in creating jobs and rebuilding emerging market economies,” which highlights how investments in the construction sector can help address the global housing crisis.
Building with Habitat LA During Sukkot
Habitat LA recently partnered with six greater Los Angeles Jewish communities during Sukkot, a weeklong religious holiday focused on celebrating shelter. Local synagogues and Jewish schools participated in our disaster recovery efforts in the San Fernando and Antelope Valleys, helped with construction on a new Habitat LA home in South Los Angeles, and provided a local homeowner with critically needed home repairs in Long Beach. In addition to these efforts, volunteers lent their organizing and merchandising skills at our Torrance ReStore and hosted an educational session with 400 young adults, helping them understand the need for access to safe and affordable housing and how they can help transform the landscape of Los Angeles through this good work! If you would like to involve your synagogue or faith-based school in this work in the future, please contact Chris Untiet, Director of Faith Relations at chrisu@habitatla.org.
Block Party in the Washington Neighborhood
Who loves a good block party? We sure do! Watch as Long Beach’s Washington neighborhood came together at the end of summer to celebrate their community and get creative about their vision for their neighborhood.

During the block party, residents joined us and our partners from Place It! to participate in an interactive urban planning activity where they designed and prototyped their dream plaza using various objects. Thanks to the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) for their generous support of our urban planning model pop-up!
Calling All Volunteers: Your Input is Needed!
Volunteers are the heart of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. Thousands of volunteers lend a hand to build and rehabilitate homes with us each year. In fact, we estimate that more than 85% of the labor on a Habitat home is provided by our volunteers.

Whether you have volunteered once or are a regular volunteer, you are essential to what we do. Our volunteer experience is shaped by your needs as much as ours, and we need your input! Please take a moment to complete a short survey about your experience so that we can continue to make volunteering with Habitat LA fun, safe and rewarding!
