Terroriffic Tales for Halloween!

Bob Shea
There are surprises and fun in this charming picture book, which isn't really scary at all! What's that in the forest? Little Ghost predicts danger everywhere! But he's all about the drama and the only things that appear are cute and adorable, and the suspicious activities turn out not to be suspicious at all!

The Spooky Express Colorado
The Spooky Express Colorado: A Halloween Thrill Ride
Eric James
Lots of local interest in this colorful picture book, in which a spooky train races around Colorado on Halloween night.

Dave Horowitz
A seasonal variation on the classic Ugly Duckling story. Ugly Pumpkin is left in the field as all the other pumpkins are picked out for Halloween. All he wants to do is fit in! But it's at Thanksgiving that he finds his place and discovers who he really is.

Sizzle Press
Cute and fun board book. All the Sago Mini characters are dressed up for their Halloween party. But who is behind the costume? Have fun figuring it out with your little ones.

Lauren L. Wohl
A storytime favorite, this is a perfect read-aloud tale for fall and Halloween. In fall, the teeny, tiny woman's teeny, tiny house in the forest is covered up with leaves. How can she let people know she needs to be rescued? She has a smart and funny solution.

Tad Hills
A brand new story, featuring the beloved children's characters, Duck and Goose. Duck and Goose are dressed up and excited to go trick-or-treating. But they get the shivers when they hear that a swamp monster is looking for them! (We have little Duck & Goose Trick or Treat plastic bags to give away with this book!)

Cynthia Rylant
A touching and reassuring read for first-time Halloweeners and nervous trick-or-treaters. Herbert is not convinced that Halloween is a good thing. But his tiger costume and his father help him discover what a great time Halloween can be!
Super cute!

Jenna Lettice
Count down the days to Halloween with this cheerful rhyming picture book, featuring colorful characters, plus a bonus set of stickers!

Halloween table
You can practically smell the pumpkin spice when you pass our Halloween table...or maybe that's the scented candles. Our display is packed with books, of course, but you'll also find toys, stickers, coloring books, silly putty and tons of mini-activity books. Many of these are perfect to hand out to trick-or-treaters if you don't want to hand out candy, or  you are taking part in the Teal Pumpkin project for kids with allergies.
Draw the Line
Kathryn Otoshi Fans Alert!
If you couldn't make it to our author event last Saturday, you can still get a signed copy of Draw the Line, the brand new book by Kathryn Otoshi. Kathryn signed several copies for us! Numbers are limited, so drop by soon if you would like one! The book is a sensitive, beautifully illustrated wordless story about friendship and forgiveness. It would make a wonderful gift to a child or a teacher this holiday season, with Kathryn's unique illustrative signature making it even more precious.

Something different...
Thank you to all the wonderful authors who came to our book signing on Saturday, October 7th. Our photo shows, from the left, Kathryn Otoshi, Aaron LaPedis, Nancy Oswald, Melanie Eulberg and Mike Hamel (not in photo: Dale Lovin and Stephanie Santos Grant). Our authors enjoyed discussing their books with customers and met some very passionate readers. We have some signed books left from all our authors, so come in soon to get yours!

Banner detail
We were honored when Mary Pratt from Creekside Elementary School came in to present a banner to Kathryn Otoshi. Inspired by Kathryn's book, Zero, the second grade class put their own artwork on the poster to show Kathryn. The

banner was almost too long to unroll in the store, but with some help from the obliging Nancy Oswald, we got most of it unfurled! Kathryn was very impressed by the students' artwork and enthusiasm.

It's a busy month for events in October! As well as our weekly preschool storytime (every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.) we're excited to meet the cast of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts' new show on Saturday, October 28th. Join us to enjoy their unique reading of the stories of Ezra Jack Keats! And for anyone who likes a spooky tale, don't miss our Sunday, October 29th reading from Colonial Horrors! We'll read some Halloween picture books for the kids as well!
