Resilient: Our water supply AND our people
A look back at 2021, and what’s ahead in 2022
By Gary Martin, Board President,
 Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency
As we enter our fifth year of operations as Santa Clarita Valley’s regional water agency, we are better prepared than ever to navigate challenges of both the expected and unprecedented varieties. We had countless opportunities to persevere and grow in 2021, and I’m proud of the resilience shown by our staff to meet those challenges head on.

As the pandemic continued to ebb and flow, we modified our business practices to meet everchanging health and safety requirements, while still providing superior customer care and numerous opportunities for public engagement. As statewide drought conditions intensified, our water resource portfolio was put to the test. But through it all, both our water supply and our staff proved to be resilient and able to meet our commitment to serving our community and providing safe, reliable water at a reasonable cost.

SCV Sister Cities Seeks Young Artists & Authors for 2022 Showcase
Santa Clarita Sister Cities, in partnership with the City of Santa Clarita, invites students to participate in the 2022 Young Artists and Authors Showcase. This annual competition is part of Sister Cities International’s youth programming and gives students the opportunity to express their ideas on global citizenship and universal issues.

For the 2022 showcase, students are invited to share their perspective on the theme “Generation Rescue: Sustainable Water for All,” highlighting the importance of climate change, its impact on water resources in local and global communities, and how youth are helping address this important global issue. Categories include art, essay/creative writing, poetry, music, and photography.

The Santa Clarita competition is open to students, ages 13-18, from Santa Clarita and its sister cities — Tena, Ecuador, and Sariaya, Philippines. The top five entries in each category will be sent to Sister Cities International to compete with submissions from other Sister Cities organizations around the globe for the $1,000-grand prize per category.
