Annual Maintenance Scheduled at Castaic Lake January 3-12
SCV Asked to Step Up Water Conservation Efforts
SCV Water is asking customers to limit their outdoor water use next week, January 3-12, in preparation for annual maintenance on facilities at Castaic Lake, to be conducted by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

Our area will rely exclusively on local groundwater sources and treated imported water stored at reservoirs throughout the Valley. Ahead of the shutdown, SCV Water will fill all its storage facilities to capacity, with more than 121 million gallons of water.

SCV Water Secures Grant to Help Construct a Permanent Water Supply for Two Bouquet Canyon Communities
After more than a five-year grant application process, SCV Water secured a $3.93 million grant from the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) to construct a permanent water supply for Los Angeles Residential Community (LARC) and Lily of the Valley (LOV) Mobile Village.

LARC and LOV operate community water systems for their residents, including wells, water storage tanks, and onsite-piping networks. Due to extended drought conditions and the lack of groundwater recharge in the Bouquet Canyon Creek area, LARC has been unable to operate its wells since 2015 and forced to haul water to meet the needs of its residents. LOV relies on a single well that is being threatened by the drought.

No State Water Project Water Supplies
Allocated for 2022
SCV Water and Other Agencies Must Rely on Alternate Water Supplies
In an unprecedented decision spurred by the state’s extreme drought conditions, the California Department of Water Resources announced a 0% initial allocation from the State Water Project for the upcoming year, reserving supplies for those contractors that can’t meet basic health and safety needs in their service area. As SCV Water has alternative supplies that cover health and safety needs, this initial allocation means SCV Water and many other State Water Project Contractors cannot expect to receive any state water unless significant precipitation occurs.

In response to the drought, SCV Water implemented Stage 1 of the Water Shortage Contingency Plan in November. Customers have been asked to voluntarily reduce their water use by 15%.

Not all heroes wear capes! Check out our utility crew handling a mainline water break on Oleander Court in December. The team installed a new service saddle to repair the break. In the photo, you see Utility Worker’s Chris Hatton and Jose Martin in the trench conducting the repair. Way to go team!
