Water Resources Staff at Your Service During COVID-19
The Water Resources Division will continue regular operations and staff remain committed to providing essential services to residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a challenging time for all, and City staff remain dedicated to the safety of our customers, employees, and the community.
Water Flushing Information for Reopening Buildings
Buildings that have been unused during the COVID-19 crisis may contain stagnant water which is a potential health risk. Building operators should take steps to flush water from all hot and cold water fixtures to ensure water quality in their facility prior to resuming operations with employees or the public.
City of Santa Barbara: What to Flush?

Save yourself a potentially expensive visit from the plumber. Flushing wipes, paper towels, or similar items can cause costly damage to private plumbing and the City's sewer system. Only flush the 3 Ps: pee, poo, and paper (toilet paper). Everything else belongs in the trash.

We recognize many of our customers are facing financially challenging times; we want to help. If you are struggling to pay your utility bill, please contact the Utility Billing Office  at (805) 564- 5343 as soon as possible to discuss an alternative payment plan. It is imperative that you make contact with the City rather than not paying your utility bill. Staff are experienced in working with customers to evaluate options, like payments plans, or connecting customers to resources to reduce future bill impacts such as water conservation programs or trash service changes.

To protect the safety of our staff and the community, we have suspended in-person Water Checkups. Instead, City staff are here to help you over the phone or through a virtual meeting. Get assistance reading your meter, finding causes of high water use, adjusting your sprinkler timer, and identifying ways to save water and money on water bills. Please call (805) 564-5460 to leave a message for staff assistance.

The public is invited to participate virtually in our monthly Water Commission Meetings. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 21 at 9:00 am. Items to be discussed include a water supply update, the Montecito Water District Water Supply Agreement, and more. Agenda and virtual participation info will be posted on our website by May 14.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Santa Barbara City Council voted to require the public and employees to wear masks or face coverings in certain businesses. Businesses shall prohibit entry to any person not wearing a face mask and may provide a face mask to customers without charge or make them available for purchase. Businesses shall provide face masks without charge for their workers.
