Dry weather throughout our area and central Virginia have resulted in moderate drought-like conditions, as indicated by the U.S. Drought Monitor. On Tuesday, September 12, the Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA), Albemarle County Service Authority, and City of Charlottesville Utilities Department report that they are prepared to meet the community’s public drinking water needs and they encouraged water conservation for public water and private well users, and for businesses.

Recovery from moderate drought-like conditions may take several months, depending on the amount of rain we receive and the severity of the dry conditions in the watershed. To continue to sustain acceptable levels in the water supply, we also encourage Albemarle County Service Authority (ACSA) customers to undertake conservation activities such as limiting washing vehicles and pavement surfaces, operating decorative fountains, outdoor watering, and filling pools.

Albemarle County values stewardship and the protection of our natural resources. We appreciate your mindfulness and encourage the community to help conserve water both at work and at home. We can all help by being aware of water use during our daily activities:



• report any plumbing leaks so that they can be repaired as soon as possible
• take brief showers
• don't leave water running when brushing teeth, washing dishes, preparing food, etc.
• run full loads in washing machines and dishwashers rather than multiple smaller loads
