Crews Working 24/7 to Repair Water Main Breaks as

Below-Average Temperatures Continue

WSSC Water crews are working around the clock to repair water main breaks across our 1,000-square-mile service area. We know these repairs can be disruptive, and we truly appreciate our customers’ patience.

Since January 1, crews have responded to more than 550 breaks and leaks. Our top priority is restoring service as quickly and safely as possible. That means water main breaks are repaired first, while leaks may take longer to address. Snow- and ice-covered streets and limited access to some work sites are also causing many repairs to take longer than usual.

As crews continue repairing breaks around the clock, drivers are asked to slow down and use extra caution in work zones. Lanes may shift, narrow, or end suddenly due to snow and ice. Following posted traffic signs helps keep everyone safe.

Customers can also help by reporting suspected water main breaks or leaks as soon as they notice them. There are three easy ways to reach us:

Attention Residential Customers!

WSSC Water Offers an Emergency Loan Program

The Pipe Emergency Replacement Loan Program (PipeER) provides loans to finance the replacement of a residential water or sewer service line.

Qualified customers are eligible to receive a loan up to $10,000. PipeER is administered by the WSSC Federal Credit Union in partnership with WSSC Water.

Is Your Home Winter Ready?

Cold temperatures are sticking around, so take a few minutes to help protect your home’s pipes:

  • Locate your main water shut-off valve.
  • Disconnect outdoor hoses.
  • Keep indoor temperatures at or above 55°F.

Watch the video for more tips to help protect your pipes!

Eligible customers, including those impacted by recent federal actions, may qualify for one-time assistance of up to $750. Funding is limited, and while the total fund is more than $2 million, about $1 million is still available.

Reminder: Collections outreach for past-due accounts began January 5, 2026, including mailed notices and automated phone calls. Late fees have also been reinstated.

Service disconnections resume March 1, 2026, for past due commercial customers and April 1, 2026, for residential customers.

WSSC Water Keeps Top Credit Rating

WSSC Water earned a AAA bond rating from all three financial rating agencies – the highest possible rating – for the 25th consecutive year. The AAA rating reflects strong financial management and benefits customers by allowing us to borrow at lower interest rates, which reduces financing costs and helps keep rates more affordable.
