24/7 Response to Collapsed Sewer Main in Germantown Continues

On Thursday, March 19, WSSC Water crews quickly responded to a sewer main collapse along Liberty Mill Road in Germantown, launching a 24/7 rapid response.

WSSC Water crews continue the around the clock work to establish a large-scale bypass to safely move wastewater around the damaged pipe.

When the bypass system is fully operational, crews will work uninterrupted to install new pipe. We appreciate the community’s patience as our crews continue this nonstop emergency work.

If you need assistance paying your WSSC Water bill, don’t miss out on the limited-time Emergency Customer Relief Fund.

Eligible customers, including those impacted by recent federal actions, may qualify for a one-time bill assistance payment of up to $750.

Reminder: Collections outreach for past-due accounts began in January, including mailed notices and automated phone calls. Late fees have also been reinstated.

Residential service disconnections for past-due accounts have been extended to June 1, 2026, to provide more time for customer outreach and engagement.
