Walk for Water

Meet at Rapids Brewing, in Grand Rapids


Itasca Waters has been invited to participate in a fun one mile "river loop" walk across the Mississippi and back, to celebrate Earth Day and raise awareness for water quality.


All registrants receive a specially created Tshirt and swag bag from our sponsors, with all proceeds going to Itasca Waters Shoreland projects!


Our host is Ashley Brubaker of True North Salon.

Native Plant Sale

Each spring the Itasca Soil and Water Conservation District conducts a native tree and plant sale to help promote the planting of native species and give landowners a convenient way to obtain their favorite native plants. We offer a variety of regionally native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, grasses and sedges.


Order deadline is April 21st. Plant Sale pick up dates are May 18th & 19th, at Itasca SWCD office in Grand Rapids.

"Planting for Clean Waters"

A Resilient Lawns and Shoreline Workshop

Thursday May 2 ~ 5-8pm

Beautify your landscape while planting for clean water and pollinator habitat.


Blue Thumb workshops walk through the steps to create rain gardens, native plantings, pollinator habitat, shoreline buffers, and more!


There will be a Meet & Greet period from 5-6pm, followed by the presentation by Blue Thumb and local experts from 6-8pm - including a Q&A period.


Food and drink is available to purchase from Rapids Brewing Company and can be brought into the Event room.


Space is limited - please register!


There is no charge for this workshop but donations will be accepted to continue our Native Plants program, in conjunction with the Grand Rapids High School Horticulture class.

What You and Your Guests can do to Help Prevent the Spread of Aquatic Invasives

Get the latest information from Itasca AIS Program Manager - and longtime Itasca Waters Board member - Bill Grantges.


Several local lakes and rivers now include zebra mussels, starry stonewort, or other aquatic invasive species (AIS).

We all have a prevention role … property owners, guests, recreational boaters, anglers, visitors, and the businesses that serve us, including resorts, camps, campgrounds, lake service providers, bait shops, and marine dealers. You and your invited or paying guests can help!

Youth Water Summit, Tuesday May 21st

Once again Itasca Waters will be coordinating a Youth Water Summit for 5th graders in Itasca County. We are looking for volunteers who would like to lend a hand on the day, such as escort the chaperoned student groups to their scheduled workshops and presentations.

No experience required!
