Helping you make good, clean water...

We're pleased to be talking to you once again.
Our S&B team came back from a well-deserved break in January, excited to be 'back at it', supporting our clients around Australia (and sometimes overseas). We've had a busy month since then and we hope that 2018 proves to be a rewarding year for us, and for all of you.
Having recently had the opportunity to reflect with the team on what makes for outstanding customer service, I was struck by the way our engineers, trainers, operators and support personnel love to dive in and get 'stuck into' a challenge alongside our clients. That eagerness to find a solution, to 'make it simply better' is a hallmark of what makes Simmonds & Bristow a trusted advisor for so many of you. I believe that is something to be proud of and it is what we strive so hard to communicate to those who don't yet know us, or may not know us well.
In this issue of our bi-annual bulletin, you'll find some exciting news from our training team, you'll get to meet some new faces and hopefully, you'll learn something of interest from the articles and tips we include for your perusal.
I hope you enjoy it.
As always, thank you for your continued support and your business.

We're always trying to introduce you to our S&B team with these newsletters. This time, we thought we'd pass along a virtual 'hello' from our sales reps, Debbie and Phil. If you need help making good clean water, they're the people to call. They can assist you with connecting to the right members of our technical team (including getting input from trainers, consultants and plant operations staff if that's what you need!). If you need a hand, don't hesitate to call.

Joining S&B in 2017, Phil is an experienced salesman who is learning to love all things water and wastewater! With a great eye for detail and a background in technical products and services, Phil does a great job liaising between our clients and our technical team.

Litigation Support: How does it work?
|
David Bristow, our Managing Director, leads our Litigation Support team at Simmonds & Bristow. Litigation Support often involves clients who are having a legal discussion around environmental harm and the risks associated with future business ventures. We recently sat down with David and asked him a few questions around this service and why, when you need it, litigation support can be the key to protecting your business interests.

Resource Round-Up: What does MEDLI actually DO?
|
When it comes to your state regulatory authority and your Environmental Approval, it isn't unusual to start talking about models - and one that comes up a lot is MEDLI.
What is MEDLI? What is it actually used for? Why should you care at all?

Congratulations to our 2017 Learner of the Year!
It is with great pleasure that we announce Cathy Hocking, of Cook Shire Council, as our 2017 Learner of the Year.
As a registered training organisation (RTO 1735), Simmonds & Bristow has the opportunity to work with wonderful learners from all over Australia (and our near neighbours).
We feel it is important to recognise the tremendous effort and wonderful achievements that we witness every day as our Learners achieve their training goals. Well done Cathy!
In recognition of her achievement Simmonds & Bristow will sponsor Cathy's attendance at the Queensland Water Industry Operator's Conference, to be held in Brisbane in June.

To Release or Not to Release?

What's the best way to build a contingency plan to deal with an extreme wet weather event?
The Australian climate presents substantial challenges to water and wastewater industry operators. Our weather events can be quite extreme, especially in Queensland, where 87% of the state was drought-declared just weeks before Cyclone Debbie made landfall.
Shrewd operators know that keeping an eye on the weather forecast is vitally important, especially if their treatment plant relies on irrigation for release of treated effluent to the environment.

Our Plant Operators are intrepid individuals. They brave teeming rain, winter winds and summer heat to get the job done. Often, that means getting to "hard to reach" locations. In fact, it is a point of pride around here to share stories of planes, trains, automobiles and boats that have been pressed into service to get the Operator to the site.
One of our favourite photos is this one of Peter Ford, an S&B Operator who enjoyed the snow of New South Wales. Doesn't he look like he's having fun?
