February is Brewing Month in San Diego County

Recognizing the growing significance of the region’s craft beer and coffee roasting industries, the San Diego County Water Authority’s Board of Directors has declared February to be Brewing Month in San Diego County.

As part of the monthlong promotion, Cafe Moto – one of the oldest and largest local coffee roasters – developed Authority 1944 Blend, which celebrates the Water Authority’s formation 75 years ago. Cafe Moto and the Water Authority are providing coffee service at approximately 30 meetings of local civic and business leaders during February to spark conversations about the value of safe and reliable water supplies for San Diego County’s economy and quality of life.

Additionally, as part of Brewing Month, the Water Authority is spotlighting the San Diego Brewers Guild and its more than 130 brewery members.

Rain Barrel Distribution Events Set for North County

Take advantage of wet winter weather by purchasing and installing a rain barrel or two. Collecting rain water is a great way to reduce potable water use and prevent stormwater runoff. Each rain barrel can capture 50 gallons.

Order a rain barrel by Feb. 10 and choose from two pickup locations -- Escondido and Encinitas. Rain barrel rebates are available at SoCalWaterSmart.com (limit two rebates per household).

On Jan. 30, The Times of San Diego published an article about the Water Authority saving nearly $18 million in debt payments by refinancing bonds the agency used to construct part of the Claude "Bud" Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant.

“Not only does the desalination project continue to provide the San Diego region with reliable, high-quality water supplies, but our strong public- private partnership with Poseidon Water is paying off for ratepayers,” said Water Authority Board Chair Jim Madaffer.
