Watercolor Demonstration by Kely Knowles
Rigging, Rock Harbor
Use light values (lots of water). Complimentary colors.
I used French Ultramarine (cool) and Cadmium Orange (warm).
Begin a pattern of warms and cools. Again, lots of water.
Continue slighty increasing the values. (doing these 2 steps
helps to keep the subject visible after the wet on wet wash in step
Soak Paper (in tub or between two wet cloth towels) Ten or
more minutes. Use a 2" large flat watercolor wash brush to apply
more of the same to the whole sheet.
Dry completely. (the longer the better) Now look for shapes
that can darken with same colors.
Apparently, I was using more warm (Cadmium Orange)
pigments for awhile.
More cool (French Ultramarine) Almost done
