Notes from the Boss Lady

Hey there, everyone! These last couple of weeks have been a real whirlwind for us here at the store. Tourists are here, they are visiting and they are shopping, which is lovely. We are still in the battle for safety. If you are vaccinated you are one of the lucky ones--it does not change much for us and our safety protocols, as we are not vaccinated yet. The store safety protocols are still very much in place. The only thing that has altered is that we are now allowing 11-ish customers in at a time. We really remain vigilant for everyone.

We have so MANY new items in!!! Twice a year I explode the store in gifting and lovely family fun, and this is one of those times. Please come by and see it. I had SO much fun ordering all of these gems.

Our Anniversary for buying the store is coming up and this is such a natural time of reflection for me: a time to sit back for a minute and really appreciate what we are trying to cultivate here, and the memories that we are trying to retain and honor. I remain so grateful for all of YOU who make all of this possible. Please pop in the week of our Anniversary, date and details below - we have some very fun things planned!

I am going on a little RV trip with my hubby and kiddos. I have lived here for 11 years and have never visited the Olympic Peninsula... so we will be doing a little family time, visiting some fun places and making some memories. I will let you know how that trip goes.

I finished The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek and I absolutely LOVED it...so very good. We used it for book club. It is historical fiction, and what an interesting part of history it talks about. I am almost done reading Hidden Valley Road - a much harder read as it is non-fiction and a little dry with a LOT of scientific terms. But I am absolutely loving it also. It focuses on a family that had 12 children, and of their 10 boys, six of them became diagnosed with schizophrenia one right after the other. Very interesting, the book also goes into the history of mental health and mental illness science and diagnosis.

Next I am hoping to take on my trip something a little lighter...I will keep that for next time! Until then...happy reading, and stay safe and well.

Brandy~

Watermark Book Club
Watermark Book Club is on Zoom! It is a closed book club, and you can let us know if you would like to be added to the waitlist. In the meantime, feel free to read along with us! This month we are discussing The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, by Kim Michele Richardson. Here's what Brandy has to say about the book:
This story is wonderfully told through the voice of Cussy--the last of the blue people of Kentucky. It takes place in the 1930s, when women did not have many rights, and "colored" women had even less. The story is about Cussy and her family and also about other members in town. The story is exciting, informative and sad... keeps you on the edge of your seat till the very end. Enjoy!
