Notes from the Boss Lady
Hi there to all of my happy readers. My trip was lovely--we packed up the kiddos and rented a 30-foot RV and we hit the road. We took six days and traveled around the Olympic Peninsula. We hiked, we ate, and we spent time together. I was looking for peace and connection, and my children were looking for cell phone signals. It was very comical at times. My favorite stops were Lake Quinault and Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend. So much fun! But alas, I am back and back at it.
Independent Bookstore Day was so much fun. It felt so nice to see everyone and to sort of catch up. We remain busy around here. We moved a couple of sections of the store around to better accommodate some of the genres that we want to continue to carry and grow. We also helped with a fundraiser for Fidalgo Elementary School PTA. We met many kiddos for the first time--we were there while they celebrated books and reading, and that felt REALLY good. We were also able to help the PTA raise some money. And that is my happy place.
Looking forward--we are gearing up for the tourist crowds. They are coming. The store is STOCKED and ready! We are keeping ALL of our safety protocols in place for now. I see no reason to lessen those.
On my trip I read the new Taylor Jenkins Reid book, Malibu Rising--it comes out in June. While I have previously LOVED her works, this particular title was not my favorite read. It was light and fun and refreshing, and it would make a really GREAT "beach read." However, it just did not have enough umph for me.
I am currently reading Songs in Ursa Major by Emma Brodie--it comes out June 22nd, and I am really liking it so far. The writing is nice and the story is fun, and I look forward to sitting down with it each day!
I will report back my full thoughts next newsletter.
Happy Reading and Stay Safe,
Brandy~

These new Cubles are way too fun! Ages 6-12 will have fun assembling them with some assistance, and older kiddos and adults should have no problem assembling them. Amberly put the tiger together, and it took her about half an hour with some assistance from Brandy.

Watermark Book Club is on Zoom! It is a closed book club, and you can let us know if you would like to be added to the waitlist. In the meantime, feel free to read along with us! This month we are discussing The Leaving Year, by Pam McGaffin. Here's what Brandy has to say about the book:

This is a debut book by a local author. This book instantly draws you into the story, and you are really drawn to each of the characters. I really liked how thoughtful the main character, Ida, was. You see her through the toughest and darkest journey of her life. The relationship between mother and daughter is really nice, and I enjoyed reading about Alaska (though the story begins in Anacortes). You really felt the characters develop.
