Hello to all of my happy readers. Life has been such a wonderful blur. I went on my trip with my family--we went for 9 days to Banff, Canada. We stayed in Canmore for 5 of those days and visited that lovely town. We took a day and went to Calgary and we took another day and visited Banff proper. We hiked, we saw lakes and glaciers and thank goodness we saw zero bears!! We then traveled to Lake Louise and spent a couple of days there, and hiked up to see 3 lakes, and we gained 1,300 feet in elevation while hiking. It was snowy and we had rented spikes, which I was so thankful for. Janet was the youngest person we saw on the trail and everyone kept telling us how wonderful she was doing. We rode the Gondola to the summit and we took the long way home. We drove up to Jasper and looked at the beautiful scenery, and saw some more glaciers. If you want to be bored with pictures, please feel free to stop in and I will show you pics from the trip. We drove 1,600 miles in 9 days and it was exquisite!!!
Now I am back at work and back at it. This is the time of year when life gets wild and crazy. We are so excited about our upcoming events. I am so very thrilled to be part of this community and to be celebrating 32 years. I am so grateful for every moment of it.
I think this year has been so full of hard things that I am so happy to be here and spending my days with my team, and sharing in the crazy that is the life of retail.
While I was away I read quite a bit. I read Stanley Tucci's Taste: My Life Through Food--and just, WOW. Such a lovely and delightful read filled with travels and recipes, both food and drink. I have made some of the recipes and they are good!!! I also finished Thirty Names of Night, by Zeyn Joukhadar, and this is such an outstanding book I cannot get over it! It is about a transgender Syrian boy, and the loss of his mother, and finding out who he really is. The imagery in this book is magical. When on the trip we listened to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (trying to choose something that would be appropriate for Janet, too), and I used our "sister" app Libro.fm and it was awesome. I had, of course, already read the book, but the narrator Jim Dale is outstanding and so entertaining.
My next read is The Lower The Tide, The Warmer the Water, by Jennifer H. Kelly, and I am listening to Before the Coffee Gets Cold, by Toshikazu Kawaguchi.

We have an incredible lineup for our first in-person local author and artist event! We will host Bruce Rolfe, Bob Hogan, Jessica Gigot, Craig Wesley Wall, Jennifer H. Kelly, and Kylie Fair. Rather than an author reading, this will be a meet-and-great--a chance for you to meet the authors and artists, ask your questions, and get your book signed! Our authors and our illustrator will be seated outside with their books; our artist will be inside with her cards. This is a great opportunity to get unique Holiday shopping done!

"Jonathan is this brilliant human and in this sweet, honest, and brutal telling, he gives us all first class seats to his life and what exactly makes him tick. Jonathan admits to childhood trauma right away--I loved going back into his childhood to see him and to see his family dynamic. Difficult, abusive childhood situations led to really poor decisions as an adult. With these choices, there are things he will have to live with for the rest of his days. He admits to a lot of therapy, and talks about finding people who believe in 'you.' The story is very much told in his voice--you can literally hear it in your head." |
