Notes from the Boss Lady

Hello to all of my happy readers! Fall is here in full force. I am writing this letter to you while listening to the rain land on Commercial just outside our front door and it is lovely. So many things planned for the upcoming bit for us, and we are truly in hyper-drive planning for the holiday season.

House keeping first: we are getting a new heating and air unit this
month--just another update/project we are always doing for the shop. As per last year, we don't close our door, even in the cold, the rain, and the snow...she stays open. One less point of contact AND we just layer and wear sweaters. It all works out. I am very happy to break out my cute sweaters.

On a personal note--my hubby and our Janet are taking a little vacation before the "storm" that is the holiday season. We are going to Banff for 9 days. We are driving--it is a beautiful drive AND we want to do what feels the safest for Janet. We will be staying in little personal cabins and taking in the sights. I have always wanted to go.

I think we have worked so hard as a team to prepare for the upcoming events for you all. These are meetings, calls, conversations to discuss what we think is needed and wanted by our community. We are so grateful that you continue to show up for us.

Every year at this time I start to have a panic set into my chest...so much...so much inventory...so much money spent. It takes so much to be prepared for what comes in November and December. I start to think, "What if no one shows??" I could and have lost a LOT of sleep with that thought...And yet, so far, every year you all really grace me with your appearance and I am so forever grateful for it!!

Okay, ENOUGH about all of that...onto the BOOKS!! I tried reading The Ex Hex, by Erin Sterling. It came out this week and I had an advanced read of it. I am sorry to say that I did not complete it, and that I did not love it. It was cheeky and fun and set in a very Hallmark-ish type town. It was cute--I just don't do cute very well. That is why there are 31 flavors of ice-cream. Then I read The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot, by Marianne Cronin, and wow! Just WOW. What a great and beautiful book. Two individuals find themselves both at the end of their life. One is 16 years old and the other 84. A friendship develops and they decide to make a painting to celebrate every year of their 100 years of collected living. Just beautiful. A tear-jerker. Enjoy!--Oh, what am I going to read on my trip? The new Stanley Tucci, Taste: My Life Through Food!!!!

Stay Safe and Happy Reading!

Watermark Book Club
Watermark Book Club is on Zoom! It is a closed book club, and you can let us know if you would like to be added to the waitlist. In the meantime, feel free to read along with us! This month we are discussing This Is How it Always Is, by Laurie Frankel. Here's what Brandy has to say about the book:
"This book was recommended to me by several customers, and I am really grateful for their recommendation--this book taught me a lot. The story is moving, fast-paced, fluid--told from all voices, from a true family, and you can only hear their story with all of them. Just when you thought you really had it all figured out, the author shifts it once again--just like life, just like family."
