Notes From the Boss Lady

Hello to all of my lovely readers...

What a busy September we had. I had such great feedback from my last newsletter and what I shared with you all as a community. I felt so strongly that I needed to share that experience with you all because that is not solely our experience--it is the experience of the retail person, the restaurant worker, and while we are all super patient and loving as consumers--we could all just be a little more :)

I wanted to take this newsletter to share all of the great and amazing things going on around the shop. It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas--hahahaha! Gifts abound and books all around! The PNBA Holiday Catalogue has been ordered and will go in the newspapers starting the middle of October--we are so thrilled.

I would also like to feature my team--for without them I would truly be nothing...they help me do ALL of the things!
Amberly--she has been with me since I first bought the store. I refer to her as my right hand--she is not only a magnificent member of my sales team, but she is the writer of this newsletter (minus my notes), she does our damage returns, our regular returns, we have a business account and Amberly is single-handley in charge of making sure that they get their books on time. We also have several school accounts and she is in charge of one of those accounts. Amberly also runs the store under my specific direction when I am away. If I don't have time to do something, Amberly is called in to do it and I know that it will be seen through.

Jaycee joined our team shortly after I bought the store and I could NOT be happier, she is my left hand. She helps keep me organized--she helps me organize, order and make decisions about our card lines. She is in charge of our Facebook and Instagram accounts. She is also always on the hunt to complete all of a series/collections in-store. She is also in charge of buying and displaying all of the seasonal items (books for fall, halloween, Christmas, etc). Jaycee is a such an awesome person on my sales team.

These two team members allow me to go away for four days during Covid and not worry (I still worry) but not too much, they really are the best--I know that I have the best here. I want to also show my appreciation for them and for what they bring to the team!

Happy Reading everyone, I am almost done Jodi Picoult's new novel: The Book of Two Ways--I am enjoying it, it is very different from some of her other pieces--ask me about it or come in and grab your copy today!
ACFL Give a Hoot Fall Fundraiser
This year, the Friends of the Anacortes Forest Lands is holding an auction to raise funds for their cause, and this amazing piece of local art will be up for bidding from October 19th to October 23rd at this website. Watermark is happy to display this piece so that you can view it in person! Stop in to see, and support this great organization!

We have new books in the That's Not My... series; new non-fiction; new sticker, magic paint, and activity books; new illustrated classics, and graphic novel adaptations of classics. These books and activities make great holiday gifts, and they are also great entertainment as we go into autumn and find ourselves inside more often.

Watermark Book Club

We are excited to announce that Watermark Book Club will resume in the new year! Here's what that looks like: for the month of November, we will open the list for book club members. We have room for 20 serious members in our book club. In December, we will announce our first book, and in January we will meet via Zoom! Stay tuned for an announcement with more details in our November newsletter.

While our book club is on hiatus, we are taking the opportunity to share with you what we're reading as a team! This month, Amberly is reviewing Death in her Hands, by Ottessa Moshfegh.
This was a strange and fun book about obsession, which is one of my favorite things to read about! A woman named Vesta is walking in the woods around her house when she finds a note that claims that someone has been murdered, though there is no evidence other than this piece of paper. Vesta can't stop thinking about it, creating stories about it in her head, investigating it as much as she can, until her daydreams become reality for her. It was so interesting to feel myself go crazy along with the narrator, and the author does such a good job of taking you down with her.
