Watershed Quarterly:
Low Impact Development Projects
Can Now Become Pace Members

Tulsa's Partners for A Clean Environment (PACE) program is a voluntary, non-regulatory recognition program coordinated by the City of Tulsa's Quality Assurance and Stormwater Quality groups. The focus of the program is to provide recognition to businesses, individuals and groups who go above and beyond environmental regulations in an effort to be better stewards of our land and water.

Starting this year, the Stormwater Quality group is adopting PACE as a way to provide recognition to those who implement Low Impact Development (LID) on their properties. LID is a design approach that captures and treats stormwater runoff closer to its source, therefore improving the quality and quantity of runoff for those downstream. This includes things like rain barrels, bio-swales, rain gardens, green roofs and pervious pavement/pavers. PACE members receive a certificate of appreciation, window display sticker, public recognition by the Stormwater Quality public education program, and may be featured on LID/environmental education tours in Tulsa.

If you or someone you know has already implemented one of these practices and would like to become a member of PACE, or learn more about Low Impact Development online, or contact Stormwater Quality at (918) 591-4325.

Erosion Control:
Builder of the Quarter

The City of Tulsa would like to recognize Mike Fretz of Mike Fretz Inc. as the Erosion Control Builder of the Quarter. Each quarter the City recognizes one builder for implementing and maintaining exemplary erosion control measures on a construction site.

Mike has built approximately 1,110 homes in the Tulsa area over the past 36 years. Mike's superintendent is Bobby Thompson. Mike is a member of the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Tulsa and is currently on the HBA Board of Directors, past president of the Building Council in addition to being on several committees. Mike has also won the Don Harrington Lifetime Achievement Award from the HBA. Mike is currently serving on the Tulsa Metropolitan Area Planning Commission for the City of Tulsa. Mike is married to Jerry Fretz and has four kids, five grandkids, and six great-grandkids.

Mike's construction site is located at 18215 E. 49th Pl. S. on a quarter-acre lot. Mike utilized sod surrounding the property and a silt fence as his best management practices. These, in addition to managing site access from vehicles, minimized the discharge of silt and sediment from the site. Congratulations Mr. Fretz!
