Benefits of Using a Winterization Kit
Is summer over already? It can be disappointing to admit that the end of the swimming pool season is upon us, but a good winterization kit will help keep your pool water and liner clean and algae-free until spring.
Chlorine Winter Closing Kits Many kits feature a form of chlorine as a sanitizer because it is highly effective in killing and preventing bacteria and other contaminates. Because chlorine is less dense than water, (it floats) it can seriously weaken the fabric of a winter cover as well as bleach the liner.
Non-Chlorine Winter Closing Kits As a result, more people are turning to non-chlorine kits, which along with being equally effective, do NOT bleach stain or interfere with algaecides. These kits come in different sizes for smaller or larger pools and contain all the chemicals needed to close your pool properly.
Watson's most popular winter closing kit is the Platinum Winter Closing Kit. As with any chemical application, make sure all powdered chemicals are dissolved properly, can be circulated for an appropriate amount of time, and assure that your water is balanced before covering the pool. |
Did You Know?
- Bringing the chlorine level in your pool over 3.0 ppm will most likely damage your winter cover and bleach your liner.
- Water on your winter cover should never be greater than 4 inches. However, you should add 1" of water to hold it down and prevent flapping in high winds.
- Sharp blows on the side of a cold/frozen above ground pool might cause permanent damange to your pool's liner.
