Volunteer of the Month

Congratulations to our April Volunteer of the Month, Audrey Harsh!

This past fall, Audrey was at Worthington Mall when she came across a pop-up event for Fairy Godmothers, an organization dedicated to promoting confidence and self-esteem among Central Ohio youth. Audrey felt a strong desire to give back more to her community, so she signed up to help with the organization’s signature event, Cinderella’s Closet Boutique.

At the event, nearly 1,300 high school students in need were invited to “shop” free of charge for a prom dress and accessories. Audrey volunteered as a personal shopper, helping her peers find outfits that fit well, flattered them and made them feel confident and celebrated. Audrey said her favorite moment was watching a student leave with a dress Audrey had chosen because she knew it would help her feel beautiful and confident.

In addition to this work, Audrey has been a regular volunteer with the Our Lady of Peace School After Care program. After completing her Sophomore Service requirement at OLP, Audrey was offered a paid position to continue, but she politely declined and instead continued to volunteer. She loved working with the children and felt it was more meaningful to give back to a program that had been such an important part of her own elementary school years. Audrey also finds ways to volunteer with the Bishop Watterson girls golf team, of which she has been a member since her freshman year.

Audrey, your service shines as a powerful example of Christ’s love in action. Thank you for all you do!

Diaper Drive TOMORROW, April 30

Bishop Watterson is hosting a Bottoms Up Diaper Drive tomorrow. Bottoms Up Diaper Bank helps single mothers by providing diapers for their children. On average, one out of every two U.S. families struggles to provide diapers for their children, so these donations are extremely helpful. We ask that each student bring in at least package of diapers or baby wipes.
Most needed right now: size 4 diapers.

Students who participate by dropping off donations in the auxiliary gym tomorrow will receive a dress down day tomorrow.

All IN for the Eagles

We are grateful to everyone for making the ALL IN for the Eagles days a massive success. Your dedication demonstrates the strength of our community and supports our mission of faith-filled excellence.

Counselor Corner

Counseling Classroom Lessons Recap

Over the past few weeks, counselors have been busy spending time with all grade levels in the classrooms. See what we’ve covered with your child(ren) below:

9th Graders

Career Exploration

Students have begun learning about career clusters and researching top career clusters of

interest. Students are in the process of completing a career interest

assessment in their Scoir account. Students should continue researching careers in their Scoir account and adding careers of interest to their favorites.

10th Graders

All sophomores received their PreACT results back last week.

Click HERE to see the video they watched to understand their

results. This Practice ACT can be used to help prepare your child for

the actual ACT they will take junior year.

YouScience Aptitude and Career Exploration Results

YouScience is a research-based, aptitude-driven career assessment. All sophomores completed the assessment in February. Counselors provided classroom lessons on interpreting their aptitude and interest results and how this relates to their future career paths. Parents, please ask your son or daughter to share their results with you. See the lesson details HERE

Substance Use and Misuse

The counselors presented a lesson during Theology classes about substance use and misuse. All sophomores learned about teen substance use statistics, effects on the brain and body and psychological and social impacts of misuse. Students were provided with healthy decision-making strategies, refusal skills and resources. See the slides from the lesson HERE.

11th Graders

College Essay Brainstorming

All juniors received an hour-long college essay brainstorming lesson. We provided an overview of the differences between a college essay versus a traditional English essay, then walked students through a detailed brainstorming mini-workshop. See the slides from the lesson HERE

12th Graders

Healthy Relationships & Transitioning to Life after High School

All seniors participated in a lesson geared toward healthy relationships and transitioning to life after high school, whether they are headed to college, the work force, or living on their own. Students discussed the following questions: What are you most excited about? What are your fears? How will you step out of your comfort zone? What are you leaving behind?

Scholarship for Seniors

The Alumni Association is pleased to award the Hoppers Family Scholarship to a Bishop Watterson High School graduating senior who will attend a college, university, or vocational school.
