Msgr. Spiers Service Awards 2018
The Monsignor Spiers Service Awards are named after Monsignor Edward Spiers, the founding principal when Bishop Watterson opened. Monsignor Spiers served as principal at Bishop Watterson from 1953-1971. A Homecoming week tradition that goes back to 1996, these awards are presented by Student Council to honor students who have performed outstanding service in both the school and the community. The Monsignor Spiers Awards honor individuals who have upheld his commitment to the Christian values of service and education.

2018 Homecoming Hall of Fame
At our Homecoming Assembly on October 12, we inducted Chuck Nance '58 into our Homecoming Hall of Fame! Chuck was a member of the first class at Bishop Watterson and president of his class all four years. He was also the first Student Council President at BWHS. Under his leadership, the precedent of class representatives was set. When he was not pulling good-natured jokes in our beloved hallways, he could be found on the football or baseball field. After his career at Bishop Watterson, Mr. Nance joined the Marines. He and his wife, Jerry, recently celebrated 55 years of marriage, including raising and educating several children in the Catholic faith and tradition. Though he remains the only Bishop Watterson graduate in his family, to this day Mr. Nance is always loyal to his Alma Mater, and continues to meet with members of his graduating class over a meal every other month.

One week ago today we completed our Back Field Renovation Project campaign thanks to our generous Bishop Watterson community! A donor’s offer to match gifts up to $250,000 through Oct. 10 propelled us across the finish line of this $3 million capital improvement project. Our band, baseball, cheerleading, field hockey, football, lacrosse, soccer and track programs are truly grateful and looking forward to having the back field in full use for the fall of 2019!
In addition, the renovation will also benefit our physical education classes and will allow Bishop Watterson to host Diocesan grade school football games, bringing potential families to our campus.
Many thanks to all who gave!

It's National Bullying Prevention Month
Think of others this week: Be someone’s support system. You can’t fix everything, but you can make things easier by lending an ear or a shoulder. If you have a friend who has been feeling down recently, pick one time this week to sit with them and offer your support. You can try phrases like, “I’m here for you,” or “I’m here if you want to talk, but you don’t have to share if you don’t feel like it.” Even if no words are exchanged, your gesture of support will help your friend know they’re not alone.

Prenatal and perinatal care are key for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
