BWHS Named to AP School Honor Roll

Bishop Watterson has been named to the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll, earning the bronze distinction. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success.

Research shows students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. Also, students who enter four-year colleges with credit from AP build confidence for college success and accelerate their path to graduation; for those who don’t earn credit, AP coursework provides early exposure to college-level work.

Schools can earn this recognition annually based on the engagement of the graduating class with AP courses.

Eucharistic Adoration

Parents Are Invited to Join Us

One of the efforts to nurture and encourage the spiritual life of our students here at Bishop Watterson is weekly exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Each week, a grade is assigned to spend some time in silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament during Theology class. On Wednesdays, we expose the Blessed Sacrament at 7:30 a.m. and remain in prayer until Benediction at 1:30 p.m. We would like to invite parents to join us. Eucharistic Adoration will be held in Dominican Hall until the chapel expansion and renovation is completed this fall.

If you have completed the “Protecting God’s Children” requirements of the Diocese and are interested in joining us for prayer, please click on the button below to sign-up for a particular Holy Hour.

We would like to thank you for your cooperation with this effort and we look forward to your joining us.

Tardiness Reminder

As we near the end of first quarter, we want to remind students and parents about the BWHS tardiness policy. A parent will be contacted when a student reaches 10 tardies. At 15 tardies a suspension is issued. Please reference our attendance policy below from our student handbook:

TARDINESS

The purpose of education is to develop habits and patterns of behavior for life. In order to be able to account for all students entrusted to our care by their parents, as well as help the students form good habits of punctuality and courtesy, the following procedures are outlined.

Tardiness to school

A student who arrives late for school should report directly to the office. An admit to class will be given and the student will be marked tardy. If a student arrives after 8:30 a.m., the student must have a note explaining the tardiness, signed by the parent/guardian and including the parent’s phone number.

 Between Class Tardiness

Students are given adequate time between classes and must be in the classroom before the tardy bell rings. Students arriving late to class will be given a tardy by the classroom teacher. Upon receipt of a tardy from the office, students should report immediately to class. Students more than two (2) minutes late to class may be considered truant. Failure to report to class will be considered truancy.

Excessive Tardiness

Being late for school and/or class is disruptive and indicates a lack of responsibility. Tardies will be checked at the end of each day. Students who exceed ten tardies (any combination of morning and class) in a quarter are considered to have an excessive tardiness problem. In the hope of preventing habitual tardy problems, the following penalties will be assessed:

  •  At ten tardies the student will receive a tardy alert from the Dean. At this time parents will be notified through email and/or phone that their child is in danger of being suspended.
  • Once 5 additional tardies are reached after the alert is given, the student will be issued a tardy suspension. This results in a two-day, in-home suspension and the student will be placed on disciplinary warning status.
  • Receiving a tardy alert in a consecutive quarter may result in immediate tardy suspension.
