Health Office

Is your child not feeling well? In doubt on when they should stay home?

We are seeing a rise in influenza cases and strep. To help keep our students and staff healthy, please follow the following recommendations regarding when to keep your child home.

When to Keep Students Home

Fever-Temperature 100.0 F or higher: A student needs to be fever free for a minimum of 24 hours without the help of fever-reducing medication before returning to school.

Diarrhea, Stomachache and/or Vomiting: Student must remain home for 24-48 hours after stomachache, diarrhea, and/or vomiting has stopped. The student should be feeling better with food intake returning to normal before returning to school.

Difficulty Breathing/Wheezing: Student should stay home until feeling better and back to a normal activity level.

Sore Throat: Student should stay home if he or she has a red throat, swollen glands or difficulty swallowing.

Red Eyes and/or Eye Discharge: Student should stay home until recovered or seek evaluation by a healthcare provider

Undiagnosed Rash: Students should seek evaluation by a healthcare provider.

Uncontrolled cold symptoms that interfere with the student’s ability to learn (persistent coughing and/or persistent/active runny nose, body aches, headaches, fatigue): Students should stay home until symptoms are improving and they are able to participate in class.

Please email a copy of any diagnosis or report any communicable disease to our nurse, Tonya Friend, at tfriend@bwhs.org or (614) 268-8671 ext.290.

Counselor Corner

Buckeye Girls and Boys State

  • Buckeye Girls State takes place June 7-13 at Bowling Green State University
  • Buckeye Boys State takes place June 14-21 at Miami University

College Credit Plus

Students interested in taking College Credit Plus courses should contact their school counselor. Resources are available on the school website to assist families by clicking here.
